Svitzer

People Operations & Talent Acquisition Partner - Maritime

Fremantle Regional Office Full time

Get to Know Us

Svitzer has been part of the maritime industry since 1833. Today, our work across Australia and Papua New Guinea is powered not just by vessels, but by the people who manage operations, safety, logistics, and support on shore. In our shore teams, we focus on getting the details right and backing each other every step of the way. If you’re looking to be part of something that works - we’re ready when you are.

We’re looking for a People Operations & Talent Acquisition Partner to join our Fremantle team on a 12-month fixed-term parental leave cover contract, starting in January 2026. This timing will give you the benefit of a thorough handover and smooth transition into the role.

Why You’ll Want to Join Us

Join a friendly, collaborative national team that values flexibility, attention to detail, and a can-do attitude. If you enjoy the structure and rhythm of HR administration while also looking for opportunities to improve how things are done, this hybrid role offers the best of both worlds.

You’ll be part of a team that supports one another, embraces variety, and works together to deliver meaningful outcomes. From recruitment and onboarding to data integrity and employee experience, every detail you manage helps create a workplace that works smoothly — and where people feel supported.

How You’ll Make a Difference

Your day-to-day tasks will include:

  • Managing the internal recruitment process, including conducting position briefings, preparing position descriptions, posting job advertisements, interviewing, coordinating medicals and interpreting psychometric assessment results

  • Preparing HR correspondence and employee documentation, including employment contracts, contract variations, confirmations, and other employment-related letters

  • Advising leaders and employees on all aspects of the employee lifecycle, including recruitment, onboarding, engagement, training, development, and offboarding

  • Managing hiring, job change, and termination processes in Workday, ensuring data accuracy, global compliance, and timely completion of all employee lifecycle actions

  • Supporting training, development, and diversity initiatives, including attending career fairs, coordinating trainee recruitment, and managing work experience applications and related community engagement activities

  • Managing progress trackers related to recruitment, onboarding, and offboarding activities.

  • Preparing and analysing data to support business decisions and fulfil client reporting requirements

  • Managing the HR and Recruitment shared inboxes, ensuring timely and professional communication.

  • Collaborating with People & Culture Business Partners on key HR projects and initiatives.

What You’ll Bring

We’re looking for someone with a strong recruitment background who’s been hands-on across the full hiring and onboarding process. You understand what great talent acquisition looks like, and you’re equally confident stepping into broader HR processes.

You have a meticulous eye for detail and a love of structure,  balanced by efficiency and a practical mindset that keeps things moving. You take pride in managing processes end-to-end, supporting your team, and creating a positive experience for candidates and employees alike. A genuine curiosity for systems, technology, and smarter ways of working will set you up for success.

To thrive in this role, you’ll bring:

  • Proven experience in HR administration and recruitment, particularly across transactional processes such as onboarding, offboarding, and employee data management

  • Knowledge of the National Employment Standards (NES) and a basic understanding of Fair Work legislation, modern awards, and enterprise agreements

  • Proficiency with HRIS systems (ideally Workday) with a knack for troubleshooting, problem-solving, and working out how systems and processes fit together.

  • Meticulous attention to detail, taking pride in preparing documentation, correspondence, and reports to a consistently high standard

  • A self-motivated and proactive approach, demonstrating initiative and confidence in decision-making

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to influence, negotiate, and present ideas clearly

  • Creative flair and the ability to think outside the box, bringing fresh ideas to how we attract, engage, and support our people

  • Analytical capability to collect and interpret data, identify trends, and recommend improvements.

  • Flexibility to travel to our operations across Australia as required

Don’t meet every single requirement? Studies have shown that members from some under-represented groups are less likely to apply for jobs if they don’t meet every single qualification. At Svitzer we are dedicated to building a diverse and inclusive workplace, so if you’re excited about this role but your past experience doesn’t align perfectly with every qualification in the job description, we encourage you to apply anyway. You may be just the right candidate for this or other roles, and we are excited about hearing from you!
