Actuarial Risk Oversight & Financial Risk Modeling
This job leads the second-line risk management function providing independent oversight of actuarial services and financial risk modeling. This role manages the team responsible for risk oversight of asset-liability management, interest rate risk, product financial risk, as well as specialized financial modeling capabilities. The position requires deep actuarial expertise to effectively partner with and challenge first-line actuarial teams while ensuring robust risk management practices across the enterprise.

Key Responsibilities and Duties
  • Provides independent risk management oversight and governance for actuarial services teams, ensuring comprehensive risk assessment, challenge, and validation of actuarial methodologies, assumptions, and results
  • Partners strategically with actuarial leadership (Product Actuarial, Asset-Liability Management, and Actuarial Management teams) to provide risk perspective on asset-liability management initiatives, including duration matching, economic capital modeling, cash flow projections, and balance sheet optimization strategies
  • Provides risk partnership and oversight of interest rate risk management programs, including sensitivity analysis, scenario testing, hedging strategy evaluation, and regulatory capital adequacy assessments
  • Leads independent review and challenge of product financial risk, including pricing adequacy validation, reserve adequacy testing, profitability analysis, and risk-return evaluation across annuity and insurance product portfolios
  • Manages teams performing sophisticated in-house financial modeling activities, including dynamic asset allocation models, operational risk quantification, stress testing, and specialized financial analytics supporting enterprise risk management
  • Provides risk perspective on regulatory submissions and requirements including risk-based capital, asset adequacy testing, and other actuarial and financial risk reporting standards
  • Represents financial risk management on cross-functional project teams and strategic initiatives, providing risk expertise to support business decision-making and actuarial operations
  • Monitors industry trends, regulatory developments, and emerging risks in insurance and financial services to proactively inform risk management strategy and actuarial practices
  • Manages team performance through coaching, mentoring, and formal development processes to enable the team to deliver on strategic objectives and maintain technical excellence

Preferred Requirements:

  • Advanced degree in actuarial science, mathematics, finance, or related field
  • Fellow of Society of Actuaries (FSA), Associate of Society of Actuaries (ASA), or Chartered Enterprise Risk Analyst (CERA)
  • 15+ years of progressive actuarial and/or financial risk management experience with demonstrated expertise in life insurance/annuity products, asset-liability management, and risk oversight functions

Base Pay Range: $230,000/yr - $315,000/yr

Actual base salary may vary based upon, but not limited to, relevant experience, time in role, base salary of internal peers, prior performance, business sector, and geographic location.  In addition to base salary, the competitive compensation package may include, depending on the role, participation in an incentive program linked to performance (for example, annual discretionary incentive programs, non-annual sales incentive plans, or other non-annual incentive plans).
