Veterans United Home Loans

Loan Accountant

Columbia, MO Full time

Whether you are recently graduated with your accounting degree or you have been in an accounting role for a couple years, you could be a good fit for this role. We’re looking for a professional communicator who is good at critical thinking and problem solving and is familiar with credits and debits.

About the Role:

As a Loan Accountant, you’ll help manage the financial transactions tied to our mortgage loans—from tracking escrow accounts to reconciling loan-level payments. Your work behind the scenes is key to making sure everything runs smoothly and stays accurate. If you enjoy detailed work, appreciate a good spreadsheet, and have a soft spot for problem solving, we’d love to meet you.

Here’s a snapshot of what you’d be doing:

  • Reconcile mortgage-related accounts including escrow cash and liability accounts—accuracy is your superpower.
  • Process and record detailed loan-level transactions within our accounting systems. Details matter here, and you’ll help make sure the numbers are always right.
  • Issue escrow payments on behalf of borrowers. You're making sure tax bills and insurance premiums are handled without a hitch.
  • Respond to email inquiries from internal teams and external partners with clarity and care. You’ll be the go-to for questions related to borrower transactions.
  • Assist our appraisal team when borrower appraisal amounts need to be reconciled. Another chance to flex those accounting muscles.

About You:

  • Process-Driven. You like having a clear checklist and following it to a T. Repetitive tasks don’t bother you—they energize you because you’re great at doing them right every time.
  • Reliable and Consistent. People know they can count on you to meet deadlines and keep things moving without a bunch of reminders.
  • Detail Obsessed. Typos? Missing cents? Mismatched data? Not on your watch. You spot inconsistencies and fix them fast.
  • Service-Minded. You’re helpful, responsive, and respectful—especially when supporting internal teams or answering questions via email.
  • Organized. Whether it's managing time, files, or multiple inboxes, you've got a system that keeps everything flowing smoothly.
  • Adaptable. Even with structure, things change—and you're cool with shifting gears when needed.

About Us:

We’re all about helping Veterans and military families become homeowners. In two short decades, we closed over 500,000 VA Loans and became the #1 VA lender for homebuyers in the nation. But to us, success isn’t measured in numbers. Our success is measured in living our values every day: Be Passionate and Have Fun, Deliver Results with Integrity and Enhance Lives Every Day. We always strive to provide friendly service to military homebuyers and their families. And we always seek to lift up people and communities across the country.

We’re so glad you’re here checking out this opportunity! If this role gets you excited but you’re worried you don’t check every box – don't sweat it. We’re more interested in what you can bring to the team than a perfect checklist. If you’re passionate, driven, and ready to make a difference, we’d love to hear from you.  Come as you are, and together we’ll create something amazing.
