Director, Enterprise Tax

The opportunity

Reporting to the Managing Director, Taxation, the Director, Enterprise Tax is a senior leadership role responsible for setting the strategy, and execution plan for the organization’s enterprise tax function. The position will be responsible to lead the enterprise tax team and oversee all aspects of corporate tax compliance and manage tax disputes for a global pension plan with tax obligations spanning over 10 countries. This includes responsibility for providing strategic tax advice on employment and pension tax compliance.

You will work with Corporate Affairs leaders, People and Culture, Finance, and external partners such as advisors, tax authorities, and peer networks.

What you'll do

Tax Strategy & Leadership

  • Collaborate closely with the Managing Director, Taxation to shape and implement the strategy for tax compliance and tax dispute management globally, ensuring alignment and effective execution across all jurisdictions.

  • Build, mentor, and retain a high-performing global tax team, ensuring an effective mix of technical, operational, and leadership skills across regions.

  • Lead enterprise-wide tax planning initiatives, e.g. entity rationalization, international offices.

  • Oversee the budgeting, resourcing, and performance management of the enterprise tax team, ensuring best-in-class service delivery and cost management. Champion a culture of ethical compliance, continuous learning, and knowledge sharing within the tax function and across the broader organization.

Regulatory and Legislative Monitoring

  • Actively monitor and interpret global tax developments and provide input to the tax horizon scanning exercise.

  • Stay current with evolving tax legislation and international tax developments specifically impacting pension plan operations; assess the impact of new regulations on tax compliance requirements and communicate their impact and recommended actions to tax leadership.

Tax Compliance

  • Assume overall accountability for the organization’s compliance with all direct and indirect tax obligations in every relevant jurisdiction, including but not limited to corporate income tax, VAT/GST, employment tax, pension tax, withholding tax, and transfer pricing.

  • Ensure accurate and timely preparation, review, and filing of tax returns, disclosures, and all required documentation, including compliance with statutory deadlines and reporting standards.

  • Oversee the design, implementation, and ongoing improvement of tax compliance processes, leveraging technology (e.g., ERP, tax engines, workflow automation) to drive efficiency, accuracy, and auditability.

  • Direct the management and maintenance of robust tax documentation and evidence files to support positions taken in filings, especially for high-risk or complex items.

  • Establish quality assurance framework, validate compliance, identify gaps, and implement corrective actions.

  • Proactively manage the impact of new business initiatives or regulatory changes (e.g., new foreign offices) on tax compliance obligations.

  • Coordinate closely with finance, HR, legal, and business operations to gather necessary information, validate tax data, and ensure seamless end-to-end compliance execution.

Tax Disputes

  • Represent the organization in interactions with tax authorities, auditors, and regulatory bodies concerning audits, reviews, and investigations, in collaboration with Enterprise Legal Services team.

  • Develop protocols and playbooks for audit readiness, response strategies, and management of tax disputes, including documentation, and escalation procedures.

  • Direct the resolution of tax audits, inquiries, and disputes across all jurisdictions—managing external counsel, and seeking efficient, risk-conscious resolutions.

  • Monitor and report on the status and outcomes of audits and disputes.

  • Conduct post-mortems on all disputes or significant findings to drive process improvements and strengthen future audit defenses.

  • Manage relationships with tax authorities, external tax advisors, and service providers.

Tax Risk Management

  • Design, implement, and maintain a comprehensive tax risk management framework that incorporates identification, assessment, mitigation, and ongoing monitoring of all material tax risks.

  • Lead regular, systematic risk assessments covering all entities, investment structures, transactions, and geographies, updating risk registers and recommending action plans for high-priority exposures.

  • Collaborate with enterprise risk management and internal audit to ensure tax risk is fully integrated into the organization’s overall risk governance.

  • Develop early warning systems and key risk indicators to proactively identify emerging tax risks, regulatory shifts, or business changes with tax implications.

  • Establish incident management protocols to ensure immediate escalation and response to identified or suspected tax risk events.

  • Provide targeted training and practical guidance to business and finance teams to strengthen tax risk awareness and promote a risk-conscious culture.

Advisory & Stakeholder Engagement

  • Enhance the visibility and strategic value of the enterprise tax function by building strong cross-functional relationships and establishing the tax team as a trusted, go-to resource for tax guidance across the organization for corporate initiatives.

  • Provide expert counsel on employment tax and pension tax requirements for workforce planning, benefit design, and cross-border employee mobility, etc.

  • Build and maintain external networks with industry peers, tax advisors, industry associations, and regulatory authorities to anticipate trends.

  • Develop and deliver tailored tax education and awareness programs for staff at all levels.

  • Deliver on tax strategic projects, as required.

Continuous Improvement

  • Drive a culture of continuous improvement, leveraging emerging technologies (e.g., AI, data analytics, process automation) to modernize and streamline tax operations.

  • Lead strategic initiatives including technology adoption and other projects to enhance the efficiency, accuracy, and effectiveness of the enterprise tax function. 

What you'll need

  • CPA, CA, or equivalent professional qualification

  • In-depth knowledge of corporate tax, international tax, and working knowledge of employment tax, and pension tax. Experience managing tax affairs in multiple countries is essential

  • Minimum 12+ years’ experience, with a track record in global corporate tax compliance.

  • Proven ability to lead and inspire high-performing tax teams, manage external advisors, and influence senior stakeholders.

  • Exceptional analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills. Strong project management, negotiation, and stakeholder management capabilities

  • Ability to operate with integrity, sound judgment, and a risk-focused mindset in a fast-paced, evolving environment.
