About the team

Product Accounting: The Stripe Product Accounting Team is responsible for supporting all products at Stripe, consulting on accounting implications and supporting teams' ability to make informed strategic decisions. We are responsible for the accurate and timely recording of all business-generated transactions on our balance sheet and income statement. We operate in a fast-paced environment and collaborate significantly with cross-functional and international teams.

What you’ll do

Stripe is seeking an experienced accountant with an aptitude for data analysis to join its world class Accounting team and help us scale for the future, in a fast-paced environment that’s growing rapidly. As a member of the Product Accounting team, you will support the processing and reporting of our financial results for our transaction losses.

Responsibilities

  • Partner closely with our risk management, data science and finance partners to thoroughly understand Stripe’s credit and fraud risk, and advise on accounting implications grounded in US GAAP guidance
  • Plan, produce, and review monthly and quarterly close activities, including balance sheet reconciliations, reserve rollforwards, variance analysis and analytical reviews, producing internal management reporting and external audit support
  • Enable timely financial close and margin analysis through data analytics and visualization
  • Wrangle large, highly complex datasets into actionable insights and become a data expert for losses accounting. Perform analysis, identify trends, conduct research, and build visualizations to deliver objective, critical insights that fulfill accounting and finance stakeholders’ needs 
  • Implement anomaly detection of automated accounting activity to identify potential misstatements in financial results 
  • Drive cross-functional projects, primarily partnering with FP&A, Financial Systems, and Product Engineers, to identify opportunities to help our stakeholders operate more efficiently and effectively
  • Work independently to investigate the root cause of system breakages and drive both short and long-term resolution

Who you are

Minimum requirements

  • 7+ years of relevant public accounting and/or industry experience
  • B.A. or B.S degree in Accounting or Finance (CPA strongly preferred)
  • Fluency in U.S. GAAP 
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to convey financial concepts to both financial and non-financial audiences
  • Strong knowledge of Excel and experience working with large data sets, often coming from multiple sources
  • Demonstrated experience partnering with cross-functional stakeholders
  • Experience with internal controls (design, implementation and execution) 
  • Demonstrated history of taking on various types of challenging projects and producing results
  • Solution-oriented mindset with enthusiasm for establishing best practices

Preferred qualifications

  • CPA or similar qualification
  • Experience using SQL and knowledge of relational database structure to self-service information
  • Knowledge of (or experience in ) Payments or Tech industry
  • Experience with Tableau, Alteryx, or other data insights or visualization tools
