The Pre-Health Advising Office invites applications for the position of Admission Essay
Consultant. Under the supervision of the Director of Pre-Health Advising, the Admission Essay Consultant provides individual feedback and guidance for applicants’ admission essays.
Writing Consultation: Conduct writing consultations with applicants to medical, dental, optometry, physician assistant, and other health profession schools. (40%)
Provide Feedback: Provide clear and effective oral and written feedback for applicants on their admission essays, including personal statements and secondary application essays. (40%)
Monitor Progress: Meet as needed with the Director and/or the Pre-Health Advising team to review applicants’ progress on essay writing, and strategies for working effectively with applicants on their essays. (20%)
The hourly pay rate for the position is $25-$28
Essential Qualifications:
Strong oral communication and writing skills (especially academic and professional)
Basic understanding of writing concerns across different genres and disciplines
Ability to identify writers’ strengths and weaknesses and to prioritize feedback accordingly
Ability to empathize with writers and deliver effective feedback and direction
Ability to work well with writers of varying abilities, and from different cultural and linguistic backgrounds
Preferred Qualifications:
Strong writing skills and understanding of the fundamentals of essay writing
Experience teaching and/or tutoring in various settings and/or disciplines
