Position Summary:
The Supplier Quality Engineer (SQE) is responsible for ensuring the quality and reliability of components and materials sourced from suppliers. This role works closely with internal teams and external suppliers to develop, qualify, and continuously improve supplier quality performance. The SQE leads supplier audits, manages nonconformances, supports new product launches, and drives supplier corrective and preventive actions to achieve best-in-class product quality and delivery performance.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Supplier Development
- Participate in supplier qualification, audit, and selection processes.
• Conduct supplier audits, including quality system and process audits, and follow up on corrective actions.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure supplier capabilities meet Greenworks’ technical and quality requirements.
Incoming Quality Management
- Establish and maintain incoming inspection standards, procedures, and sampling plans.
• Manage supplier nonconformances through structured problem-solving (e.g., SCARs, 8D reports, corrective/preventive actions).
• Work with suppliers and internal teams to ensure timely and effective resolution of quality issues.
Process and Product Quality Improvement
- Partner with suppliers to identify root causes of recurring quality problems and drive continuous improvement initiatives.
• Support new product introduction (NPI) activities, including supplier readiness reviews, PPAP, and First Article Inspections (FAI).
• Collaborate with engineering and operations to validate process changes and ensure consistent production quality.
Performance Monitoring
- Monitor, analyze, and report supplier quality performance metrics (e.g., PPM, OTD, defect trends).
• Evaluate supplier performance and drive improvement plans to enhance quality, cost, and delivery.
• Develop and maintain strong, data-driven relationships with key suppliers to foster long-term improvement.
Documentation and Compliance
- Ensure supplier documentation meets regulatory, customer, and internal quality requirements.
• Maintain supplier quality records, including audits, corrective actions, and performance reports.
• Support compliance with applicable quality system standards (e.g., ISO 9001, IATF 16949) and company policies.
Required Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Industrial, or related field).
- 3+ years of experience in supplier quality, quality engineering, or manufacturing quality management.
- Working knowledge of quality standards and systems such as ISO 9001, IATF 16949, and APQP/PPAP processes.
- Experience conducting supplier audits and managing supplier corrective actions.
- Proficiency with root cause analysis and quality tools such as 8D, 5Why, FMEA, and SPC.
- Strong analytical, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work cross-functionally and travel domestically/internationally as needed.
