South Pointe Hospital’s 9 Surgical Unit provides a wide range of surgical and post-surgical services to adult patients. This 16-bed unit is known for its family atmosphere and friendly and positive work environment where caregivers put their patients first. As an RN on this team, you will play a vital role assisting surgeons during procedures, setting up instrumentation, and much more. You will assist fellow caregivers in delivering exceptional care offering the opportunity to enhance the patient’s experience and supply healthcare information as needed. This position requires a caregiver who is empathetic, understanding and nurturing to ensure quality patient care and effective life-saving treatment.

How You’ll Benefit 

  • Our Center for Workplace Violence Prevention and Caregiver Well-Being sets caregiver safety as a priority, identifying, reporting and responding to incidents and providing safety resources. 

A caregiver in this position works PRN (as needed) variable shifts.

A caregiver who excels in this role will:  

  • Deliver professional nursing care in an operative setting to adult and pediatric patients undergoing surgical or other invasive procedures.  
  • Perform scrub functions, such as selecting and handling instruments and supplies. 
  • Perform circulating functions, such as monitoring, recording and communicating patient condition and managing the overall nursing care of patients before, during and after the procedure.  
  • Assist the operating physician with surgical tasks, such as hemostasis, suturing, wound exposure and patient positioning.  
  • Prepare the Operating Room, surgical instruments and surgical equipment for use.  

Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:  

  • Graduate from an accredited school of professional nursing (ADN or BSN program)  
  • Current state licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN)  
  • External candidates: two years of recent related nursing experience  
  • Internal candidates with less than two years of experience, but are post-orientation/90-day probationary period, may be considered with CNO level review and approval 
  • Licensed military RN experience will be considered  
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross 

Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include: 

  • Bachelor of science in nursing (BSN)

Physical Requirements:

  • Requires full range of body motion including handling and lifting patient, manual and finger dexterity, and eye-hand coordination.
  • Requires standing and walking for extended periods of time.
  • Requires corrected vision and hearing to normal range.
  • Requires working under stressful conditions and irregular hours.
  • Exposure to communicable diseases and/or body fluids.
  • Medium Work - Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
  • Physical Demand requirements are in excess of those for Light Work.

Personal Protective Equipment:

  • Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.
