A professional individual contributor role that may direct the work of other lower level professionals or manage processes and programsThe majority of time is spent overseeing the design, implementation or delivery of processes, programs and policies using specialized knowledge and skills typically acquired through advanced education.   A senior level role that requires advanced knowledge of job area typically obtained through advanced education and work experienceTypically responsible for: managing projects / processes, working independently with limited supervision, coaching and reviewing the work of lower level professionals, resolving difficult and sometimes complex problems. 

 

Job Overview 

Under the general direction of the Principal Investigator this position performs a wide variety of operational, technical and administrative duties in the laboratory. Supports and ensures coordination of general laboratory operations, protocols, information systems, record keeping, and training of new research personnel and related projects. May supervise staff. May be responsible for all aspects of or portions of research projects.

The Research Associate will lead projects aimed to study the role of angiogenin plexin-B2 in cancer including glioblastoma, pancreatic cancer, and prostate cancer. This research will incorporate a wide range of approaches using cancer stem cells and mouse models.  In addition, the Research Associate will interact with collaborators who are experts in diverse fields such as epigenetics, stem cells, small RNA biogenesis, and enzymatic assays. Prior experience in cancer research is prefered, In particular, prior experience in epigenetic regulation, stem cells, and glioblastoma is strongly prefered.

 

Job Description 

Minimum Qualifications: 

1. Master’s degree in biochemistry, cell biology, microbiology, or bioscience degree program AND Three (3) years of research experience OR;

2. Bachelor’s degree AND Five years of related experience.

 

Preferred Qualifications: 

1. MD or PHD. 

2. Extensive Experience in cancer research including in vitro and in vivo model
3. Experience with stem cell cultures and characterization
4. Familiarity with ectopic and orthtopic surgical procedures; Recombinant DNA and protein techniques; Small RNA analysis and viral transduction; Mouse model and drug administration; Statistical analysis
5. High level of motivation; Strong documentation, presentation and writing skills.

 

Duties and Responsibilities: The duties and responsibilities listed below are intended to describe the general nature of work and are not intended to be an all-inclusive listOther duties and responsibilities may be assigned. 

 

1. Provides statistical consultation and advanced programming support to other researchers in the hospital through the BRC.   

2. Manages and maintains large statistical databases for the Division, including managing data sets and assisting other researchers in accessing and using this data.   

3. Assists senior faculty members in managing statistical databases and supporting statistical analyses for major Division projects in health services research.   

4. Participates in the Division training program through teaching seminars to research fellows and MPH students on statistics and statistical programming.   

5. Participates in the general statistical work of the Division through weekly meetings with staff statisticians to coordinate research project support.   

6. Working with senior statistical staff on BRC research grants, develops new statistical methodologies.  

7. Writes and assists researchers in writing up research methods sections on papers and grant applicationsParticipates in writing scientific articles and may present papers and results of research at scientific professional meetings.   

8. Maintains collaborative, team relationships with peers and colleagues in order to effectively contribute to the working groups achievement of goals, and to help foster a positive work environment 

9. Performs other similar and related duties as required or directed. 

10. Assists these researchers in the construction of statistical databases and the analysis of dataThis includes extensive statistical programming, database management, statistical modeling and hypothesis testing.   

11. Participates in the weekly study design seminars and provides input to colleagues on how to advance their research.

Skills & Abilities: 

1. In-depth knowledge of computer programming, managing statistical databases and analyzing biomedical data. 

2. Ability to communicate highly technical ideas to non-statisticians on a one-to-one basis, as well as in a classroom or meeting setting.   

3. Excellent writing ability and presentation skills. 

4. Ability to meet with researchers and develop a plan with them to meet their needs within their time and budget constraints.   

5. Ability to clearly explain and present statistical results to hospital researchers and investigators. 

6. Ability to work independently

Pay Range:

 

$66,397.24 - $82,991.27
