Job Responsibilities:
• Participate in both independent and collaborative team research related to soil and wastewater response to a surfactant-like chemical
• Design and set up experiments
• Collect and analyze soil, water, mineral, and wastewater samples
• Use analytical equipment or work with data from analytical equipment (e.g., ICP-OES or ICP-MS, XRD, FTIR, EA, EA-IRMS, etc)
• Evaluate data and summarize results for preparation in peer reviewed publications including use of simple to complex statistical analysis
• Compose and write scientific publications, progress and annual/final reports for grants
• Supervise undergraduate and/or graduate students and other lab personnel in research
• Other related duties as required
Required Education:
PhD degree in soil science, chemistry, environmental chemistry, environmental engineering, biological and agricultural engineering or closely related field
Preferred Experience:
• Strong background and research experience in soil chemistry and soil analysis
• Evidence of publications in peer-reviewed journals
Required knowledge, skills and abilities:
• Strong ability to formulate hypothesis, design experiments, handle scientific data, perform statistical analysis, and write scientific reports
• Excellent written and oral communication skills
• Ability to multi-task and work cooperatively with others
• Proven organizational skills
• Ability to effectively communicate with faculty, students, and staff
Preferred Skills Knowledge or Abilities:
• Experience in the measurement of elements, minerals, and understanding sorption reactions and scale formation
• Ability to lift or move heavy loads up to 50 pounds
• Ability to drive and travel independently or in groups
