Major Duties:

  • Under the supervision of a pharmacist, the Pharmacy Technician helps to provide technical support functions in accordance with accepted policies and procedures. As directed by a pharmacist, the Pharmacy Technician performs clerical duties and other miscellaneous functions as needed for the day-to-day operation of the pharmacy. Responsible for performing the established medication distribution functions on a daily basis according to accepted pharmacy policy and procedures. Responsible for administrating certain prescribed medications via the directly observed therapy as mandated by the Health Services Manual. Prepares prescription labels as appropriate. Prepares parenteral medications using aseptic techniques in the laminar flow hood. Delivers interim doses to floor. Cleans IV hood, ensures temperature requirements for medication storage are within required range and documented per local procedures. Prepares extemporaneous parenteral. Along with all other correctional institution employees, incumbent is charged with responsibility for maintaining security of the institution. The staff correctional responsibilities precede all others required by this position and are performed on a regular and recurring basis.

Qualifications: To be considered for the position, you must meet the following qualification requirements: Education: Successful completion of a full 4-year course of study leading to a bachelor's degree with major study in pharmacy, or that included at least 24 semester hours in pharmacy-related courses. OR Experience: You must have at least one year of specialized experience equivalent in difficulty and complexity to the next lower grade level. To be creditable, this experience must have equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities (KSA's) to perform successfully the duties of the position and must typically be in or related to the position to be filled. This experience may have been gained in hospital pharmacies, retail pharmacies, or in pharmaceutical firms or laboratories. NOTE: Successful completion of pertinent specialized training courses in pharmaceutical and pharmacy practices while serving in the Armed Forces is creditable on a month-for-month basis up to the one (1) year of specialized experience required for GL-5. Experience must have provided a basic knowledge of: Pharmaceutical nomenclature. Characteristics, strengths, and dosage forms of pharmaceuticals. Pharmaceutical systems of weights and measures; and the Variety of procedures and techniques involved in the care, storage, repackaging, bulk compounding, and distribution of pharmaceuticals. If applicable, credit will be given for paid and unpaid experience. To receive proper credit, you must show the actual time (such as the number of hours worked per week) spent in activities. OR Combination of Education and Experience: Have a combination of education and experience.
