Reporting directly to the Manager of the Australian Operations Centre (CECOER-AU) which is located in South Melbourne, the Operations Controller is responsible for real time operations and management of Acciona Energia’s generation assets.

Job Description

This shift work position manages and coordinates the dispatch outcomes of the generation assets in accordance with Acciona’s processes, procedures and legislative requirements. The role works alongside other operations functions and includes maintaining the highest level of safety and compliance of generation assets within the electricity network while ensuring all required technical and training standards are met.

Responsibilities include:

  • Monitor, control, and ensure 24x7x365 production of Acciona’s electricity generation facilities under the responsibility of Acciona Energy Australia’s operations centre (CECOER-AU).
    • Participate in an on-call roster with other operations controllers.
    • In time, participate and coordinate HV switching operations at generation assets.
  • Monitor and evaluate system conditions, anticipate problems, and implement strategies to minimise or avoid issues which will adversely impact the generating assets under the responsibility of the CECOER AU.
  • Promptly acquire and disseminate information to the appropriate parties for system disturbances, emergency conditions and other events adversely affecting the generation assets under the responsibility of the CECOER AU.
  • Liaise and coordinate with the global operations teams within Spain and AEMO and various NSPs.
  • Direct and support dispatch of site personnel to perform system restoration and service activities.
  • Support and close liaison with Acciona’s Australian Energy Markets team, including the use of AEMO’s marketing systems as required and/or as directed.
  • Analyse power system conditions and maintain situational awareness.
  • Develop and distribute periodic and incidental reports.
  • Record, log, and maintain accurate records of power system operational events and activities.
  • Maintain a working understanding of all CECOER AU procedures, relevant NER and AEMO requirements, along with Acciona’s asset developments.
  • Provide input and assist in the development of CECOER AU operational procedures.

Required Skills and Competencies

  • Technical qualification required or equivalent experience.
  • 5+ years’ experience in similar (global organisation) utility or power plant operations control room highly desired.
  • Experience working with renewables energy systems desirable.
  • Relevant tertiary qualifications and knowledge of electrical / mechanical theory and concepts.
  • Skill handling multiple tasks simultaneously without losing track of the details at various states of completion under normal and stressful conditions.
  • Must work in a shift routine basis (nights, weekends, holidays, extended hours).
  • Ability to apply basic mathematical concepts.
  • Ability to use computer applications (Microsoft Word, Excel, Power Point, etc).
  • Ability to monitor and navigate among several computer screens simultaneously.
  • Ability to communicate detailed information accurately to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Ability to professionally represent the company when interacting with internal and external stakeholders and communicate clearly and effectively in English.
  • Spanish language skills advantages.
  • Ability to travel for training to various locations (including international).
  • A valid driver’s license is desirable.
  • Must be able to work in an office team environment.
