Job Summary: You will serve as an ENGINEERING TECHNICIAN (MECHANICAL) in the HM&E FLEET AND INDUSTRIAL SUPPORT DIVISION, ENGINEERING AND PLANNING DEPARTMENT of the NAVAL SHIP REPAIR FACILITY. The Secretary of Defense has ordered a department-wide hiring freeze subject to certain limited exceptions. This position is subject to the DoD hiring freeze. Offers of employment related to this vacancy announcement will not be executed until the position has an approved exemption.

Major Duties:

  • You will provide system and equipment/component technical support services and expertise on Cargo/Weapons Elevator (Mechanical) Systems as installed aboard U.S. Navy Ships.
  • You will provide expert technical support, oversight and management in troubleshooting, disassembly, depot and intermediate level repair and modernization, and assembly.
  • You will provide test and certification of Cargo/Weapons elevator (Mechanical) systems, support systems, equipment and components.
  • You will identify parts and material support requirements necessary to accomplish required repairs or modernization.
  • You will develop detailed cost estimates identifying required man-hours and materials.
  • You will provide immediate authoritative technical assistance and training to ships and ships' force personnel on urgent mission degrading casualty reports.

Qualifications: GS-12: Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of Specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-11 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: Experience in providing distant support and/or on-site support trouble shooting, analyzing, and repairing Aircraft Elevators, Weapons Elevators, Vertical Package Conveyors, Dumb Waiters, Ammunition Strike Down Equipment, Cranes, Hydraulics, and Hangar & Divisional doors on a wide variety of ships. Experience in utilizing your knowledge of Elevator and Auxiliary Mechanical Components/Systems on ships employing steam, diesel, and gas turbine propulsion power generation systems. Experience in training Ship's Force personnel on Elevator, Lifting, and Handling equipment on a wide variety of ships. Experience communicating orally and in writing to effectively provide information, direction and leadership in completing work in a timely and satisfactory manner. Experience working with a diversified group of people to effectively provide information, direction and leadership in completing work in a timely and satisfactory manner.
