CLA is seeking a talented and motivated Indirect Taxes Director to join our Internal Finance Tax Team in Minneapolis, MN.

This role is responsible for indirect tax compliance and planning within CLA. This includes but not limited to sales/use, personal property, B&O, franchise, and excise tax. They analyze tax laws and regulations to ensure the company is in compliance and identify opportunities for tax savings. They also respond to tax audits, prepare and review tax returns, and provide guidance to the finance and accounting teams on indirect tax matters.

 

How you’ll create opportunities in this Indirect Taxes Director role:

  • Coordinate with Indirect Tax Team (Team) to prepare and review all indirect tax returns and ensure timely filing in all relevant jurisdictions.
  • Coordinate with Team and Internal Finance Accounting to record accrued expenses, record tax payments, and reconcile ledger accounts.
  • Responsible for monitoring indirect tax developments and collaborating with Team to ensure compliance.
  • Confer with Finance Innovation and Team to pursue technology and automation enhancements to reduce manual processes and ensure compliance with regulations is accurate, efficient, and cost effective.
  • Execute the ongoing development and maintenance of internal control policies, guidelines, and procedures for indirect tax compliance and provide guidance/training to relevant personnel.
  • Accountable with Team for responding to indirect tax audits.

What you will need:

  • 5 years relevant experience required
    • Indirect tax experience preferred
  • Bachelor's degree is required. Combination of relevant experience, education, and training may be accepted in lieu of degree.
    • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field preferred.
  • CPA or equivalent certification or in progress preferred.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.)
  • Proficiency with Vertex O Series, Vertex Certificate Center, Vertex Returns, and Workday preferred
  • Experience with tools like Copilot and Alteryx
  • Strong understanding of federal, state, and local tax laws
  • Proven experience with tax preparation and compliance
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Attention to detail and high level of accuracy

Our approach to compensation emphasizes collaboration and career growth.  We pay competitive wages and view compensation as an investment in our people.  Factors such as geography, experience, education, skills, and knowledge may impact position of pay within the range.  These same factors may cause starting pay to be below or above the posted range.  For Minnesota, the range for this position is $105,600 to $181,000.
