Environmental Services Attendant

Reporting to the Supervisor of Environmental Services, this position is responsible for performing various cleaning tasks, moving equipment and furniture, and maintaining floor care. The goal is to provide patients, visitors, and health sciences staff with a safe and clean environment by upholding standards of cleanliness, sanitation, and protection from hazards and infections.

Schedule: Monday - Friday 5:00 pm - 1:30 am with rotating weekends

Job Responsibilities

  • Demonstrates the ability to perform the essential functions of the job as outlined in the position description.
  • Completes all required training and ongoing education, including department-specific requirements.
  • Complies with personal protective equipment (PPE) requirements to ensure protection against exposure to blood, infectious body fluids, chemical disinfectants, radiation, asbestos, and other hazardous substances.
  • Transports custodial supplies and equipment to and from storage and work areas.
  • Cleans toilets, basins, showers, bathtubs, and apartments during vacancy; scrubs walls; dusts; and vacuums furniture, fixtures, doors, and related furnishings using appropriate cleaning supplies.
  • Cleans common areas, offices, public restrooms, exercise rooms, teen arts and crafts rooms, dining areas, and other activity rooms used by patients, parents, and staff.
  • Operates and maintains industrial vacuums, carpet shampooers, and upholstery cleaning equipment.
  • Removes waste bags and containers.
  • Cleans restrooms, locker rooms, lounges, storage areas, toy rooms, administrative offices, windows, equipment rooms, closets, and all common spaces within the plaza.
  • Prepares rooms for prompt reuse by cleaning ledges, fixtures, walls, vents, and lights.
  • Performs terminal cleaning of all apartments between vacancies, including tables, floors, lights, vents, ceilings, walls, furniture, beds, closets, kitchens, stoves, refrigerators, microwaves, dishes, and cookware.
  • Meets deadlines for special projects and communicates accomplishments and any unfinished tasks to the supervisor.
  • Manages waste removal and linen collection for designated work areas.
  • Collects and transports linen to the laundry service area for washing, folding, and restocking.
  • Collects, transports, cleans, and stocks all houseware items.
  • Collects and transports all staging items to the staging area for future use.
  • Maintains regular and predictable attendance.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned to support departmental and institutional goals.

Minimum Education and Training

  • High School Diploma or equivalent preferred.

Minimum Experience

  • Previous experience in Environmental Services within a hospital or hotel setting is preferred.
  • Experience operating housekeeping-related equipment preferred.

Physical Demands and Working Conditions

  • Must be able to stand, walk, use hands, reach, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl regularly.
  • Frequently required to sit, climb, or balance.
  • Must be able to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds frequently.
  • Must move throughout the workspace to access surfaces, shelves, cabinets, drawers, and equipment at various heights.
  • Frequently exposed to fumes, airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and strong odors.
  • Occasionally exposed to infectious diseases.
  • Noise level in the work environment is typically loud.
  • Must comply with all applicable federal, state, and local safety and health regulations.

Compensation

In recognition of certain U.S. state and municipal pay transparency laws, St. Jude is including a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this role. This is an estimate offered in good faith and a specific salary offer takes into account factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to skill sets, experience and training, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. It is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the salary range and compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case. A reasonable estimate of the current salary range is $19.00 - $27.50 per hour for the role of Environmental Services Attendant.
