Job Description Summary

To oversee all Apprentices and Trainees on the Defence PAS contract, and to also caretake the graduates in working with the central Graduate team.

We have a role available for a Early Careers Supervisor in our Defence division. This is a permanent full-time position based at any major Defence base across SA & NT.

About the role 

You will play a pivotal role in shaping the future workforce of the Defence sector by overseeing the development, performance, and wellbeing of apprentices, trainees, and graduate employees.  

Your key responsibilities will include: 

  • Lead and support apprentices, trainees, and graduates across diverse Defence sites and disciplines, ensuring their growth aligns with both organisational goals and technical standards. 

  • Facilitate structured development through regular feedback sessions, performance evaluations, and career planning conversations. 

  • Track individual progress against training plans, competency frameworks, and defined development objectives. 

  • Manage onboarding and induction processes, including rotational placements, to deliver a seamless and engaging early career experience. 

  • Foster a culture of safety, inclusion, and high performance that embodies Defence values. 

  • Assess learning needs and enable access to tailored development opportunities, workshops, and mentoring programs. 

  • Drive continuous improvement of early career initiatives, contributing to the evolution of programs, policies, and support systems. 

 

About you 

Our ideal candidate will have:  

  • Formal qualifications in education, human resources, workforce development, or a Certificate IV in Training and Assessment (or equivalent). 

  • Proven track record in supervising and mentoring apprentices, trainees, or graduate-level employees. 

  • In-depth knowledge of vocational education systems and early career development methodologies. 

  • Exceptional interpersonal and coaching abilities, with strong written and verbal communication skills. 

  • Skilled in managing competing priorities while cultivating a positive and inclusive learning environment. 

 

You must be an Australian Citizen and able to obtain and maintain a Defence Security Clearance.
