Director (or Sr. Director) of Data Platform and Analytics

About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Director of Data Platform with proven successes in leading the strategic design, development, and management of data platform in the fast moving, dynamic, and innovative environments. You will oversee a talented team of engineers, architects, and data specialists in India, driving innovation and excellence in building scalable, reliable, and high-quality data solutions that power business outcomes by enabling analytics, AI and machine learning across product, marketing, sales, and customers care initiatives. You will have an opportunity to lead the transformation of our data platform to power product-led growth, experimentation, and customer insights at scale. You will partner with Product, Engineering, Sales, Marketing, Finance, and Care leadership to architect and deliver a scalable, trusted customer data platform enabling world-class product analytics, identity resolution, and intelligent engagement across our 800,000+ customers.
Your Day to Day
Strategic Leadership: Own vision, technical strategy, and roadmap for the cloud native (AWS + Databricks) data and analytics platform as the single source of truth for customer/usage/commercial data.
Deliver on business outcomes: Partner across organizations to ensure data solutions align with organizational objectives and are tied to business outcomes. Collaborate cross-functionally (Product, GTM, Marketing Ops) to define key success metrics and prioritization frameworks.
Team Management: Build and lead a high-performance team (data engineering, analytics engineering, data governance, platform ops). Cultivate a high-trust, impact-driven culture.
Platform Development: Oversee the design, architecture, and development of robust, scalable, and secure data platforms. Select appropriate technologies, tools, and frameworks; keep abreast of industry trends. Ensure high availability, performance, and reliability of data infrastructure and services.
Data Governance: Implement best practices in data quality, lineage, privacy, and security across the organization. Champion data observability, data quality SLAs, and pipeline quality standards. Partner with InfoSec/legal to ensure privacy/residency compliance, auditability, and data minimization.
Budget & Resource Planning: Manage team budgets, resource allocation, and recruiting.
What We’re Looking For
Experience: 12+ years in data engineering, platform engineering, or related field; 5+ years leading large teams.
Technical Expertise: Deep knowledge of cloud data platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP), big data technologies (Spark, Hadoop, etc.), ETL, data warehousing, and streaming.
Leadership: Strong experience hiring, managing, and scaling data teams in a dynamic environment.
Project Management: Track record of delivering complex, enterprise-scale data projects.
Education: Bachelor’s or Master’s in Computer Science, Engineering, or similar field or equivalent work experience.
Communication: Exceptional communication and stakeholder management skills.
Location: Must be based in India and able to travel frequently to Bangalore and internationally.
Nice to Have:
Experience working with global teams.
Familiarity with DataOps, CI/CD, and modern DevOps practices.
Background in data governance, privacy, or regulatory compliance.
