We have an exciting opportunity for a Customs Specialist to join our team in Leeds 12 (West Yorkshire). This flexible, hybrid-working role which offers a great balance between working from home and the office!
This is a new role within our Customs department where you will perform activities relating to both import and export customs formalities for international shipments in EU and UK.
What you will be doing:
- Ensuring smooth and compliant customs operations for both inbound and outbound shipments.
- First point of contact for freight forwarders, customs brokers and customs authorities.
- Close collaboration with internal departments, such as transportation, purchasing, trade and tax compliance and goods in.
- Spot checking of customs entries and initiating post-clearance correction requests or reclaims with HMRC or respective European customs authorities.
- Ensuring all customs documentation is retained in line with UK and EU government regulations.
- Supporting the manager in preparing customs audits (UK, FR, and DE).
- Supporting the manager in preparing and carrying out post-entry audits of customs brokers.
- Supporting the manager in executing import processes and continuous monitoring of implemented processes.
- Reporting on monthly import and export activity.
- Identifying trends and compliance concerns through data analysis.
What we are looking for:
- 3-5 years of experience in international trade with specialist knowledge of import and export customs procedures in UK and EU.
- Eagerness to learn and keep up to date with ongoing regulatory changes.
- Ability to handle complex problems independently, make sound decisions, and recommend process improvements.
- Comfortable working with minimal guidance, using creativity and initiative to solve challenges and enhance efficiency.
- Strong collaboration skills, with experience coordinating across departments and acting as a key contact for internal and external stakeholders.
- High level of accountability, with actions that can significantly influence departmental and organizational outcomes.
- Attention to detail and familiarity with legal and tax regulations, especially in UK and EU customs environments.
- Proficiency in Excel, with experience handling large datasets and performing detailed data analysis.
- Fluency in English is required; fluency in French is a strong advantage.
