Job Description:

Summary:

New Student and Family Programs is seeking enthusiastic and spirited student performers to serve as Clawed Z. Eagle, American University’s official mascot. The Clawed performer(s) will play a key role in enhancing school spirit and student engagement by attending Thank Clawed It’s Wednesday events and other university programming throughout the academic year.

This role is perfect for students who want to get involved on campus, spread school spirit, and help create memorable experiences for the AU community—while staying behind the scenes in a fun and energetic way!

Essential Functions:

  • Perform as Clawed Z. Eagle at Thank Clawed It’s Wednesday events every Wednesday from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.

  • Attend additional campus events and special programs as needed.

  • Stay in character and interact with students, families, and campus visitors in a fun, engaging, and appropriate way.

  • Collaborate with event staff to support successful programming.

  • Handle and care for the mascot costume, including wearing it for extended periods.

  • Maintain the secrecy and integrity of Clawed’s character and identity.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work:

  • Part-time.

  • Student.

  • 3 hours per week (Wednesdays, 11:30 am - 2:30 pm).

  • Opportunities for additional hours at special events as needed.

Salary Range:

  • $18.00 per hour.

Required Education and Experience:

  • Must be a current American University student in good standing.

  • Comfortable wearing a mascot costume and performing in public.

  • High energy, creativity, and ability to engage with an audience non-verbally.

  • Dependable, punctual, and committed to regular attendance.

Preferred Education and Experience:

  • Prior experience in performance, dance, cheer, or theater is a plus, but not required.

Additional Eligibility Qualifications:
