The Role

Are you ready to join the team of software engineering experts at Kyndryl? We are seeking a talented Software Engineering Technical Specialist to contribute to our software engineering space and provide critical skills required for the development of cutting-edge products.  

As a Software Engineering Technical Specialist, you will develop solutions in specific domains such as Security, Systems, Databases, Networking Solutions, and more. You will be a leader – contributing knowledge, guidance, technical expertise, and team leadership skills. Your leadership will be demonstrated in your work, to your customers, and within your teams.

Key responsibilities may include:

  • Responsible for evaluating and implementing orchestration, automation, and tooling solutions to ensure consistent processes and repetitive tasks are performed with a higher level of accuracy and reduced defects
  • Advance the design, development, testing, and deployment of software applications and systems
  • Drive the modification, documentation, and maintenance of software to ensure high reliability and availability
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to address advanced technical challenges and optimize application performance
  • Analyze system requirements and deliver innovative technical solutions to enhance software quality and efficiency
  • Complete code reviews and automated testing to maintain high-quality code standards
  • Collaborate and co-create effectively with teams in product and the business to align technology initiative with business objectives

Technical Skills

Software engineer with experience, currently focused on automation in mainframe environments. Proficient in mainframe-specific languages , with integration capabilities using Python and Java for hybrid automation solutions.

  • Solid understanding of distributed systems, algorithms, relational and NoSQL databases, applied to legacy-modern integration scenarios.
  • Hands-on experience with tools used for planning, analyzing, developing, testing, configuring, and maintaining mainframe applications.
  • Background in application design, software development, and automated testing in mission-critical environments.
  • Proven experience implementing large-scale automation solutions such as self-healing mechanisms, job scaling, automatic retriggers, and component-based testing.
  • Strong foundation in object-oriented design and programming, with multi-language proficiency for cross-platform development.
  • Experience working in CI/CD environments using tools like Jenkins, GitHub, UrbanCode Deploy (UCD), and managing build and deployment pipelines for mainframe applications.
  • Practical knowledge of system integration through APIs and data layers (batch and real-time), including technologies like Kafka, Solace, and IBM MQ.
  • Deep understanding of cloud-native principles adapted to mainframe, including service discovery, fault tolerance, observability, distributed tracing, automation, and monitoring.
  • Skilled in automated testing and documentation, covering functional, performance, and environment validation.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with experience collaborating in cross-functional and global teams.
  • Strong soft skills: analytical thinking, curiosity, continuous learning, and a mindset focused on improvement and innovation.
  • Fluent English

Preferred Qualifications

  • Public Cloud certification is a plus
  • Experience in cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, Google Cloud
  • DevOps knowledge for highly available IT infrastructure.
  • Experience in Agile software development methodologies and practices such as Scrum/Kanban, iterations, user stories
  • Experience in designing and coding for automation and troubleshooting purposes across multiple platforms and languages such as Java, HTML5, JavaScript, and .NET
  • Building live production APIs and services.
  • Experience with relevant business domain related functions.
