Position Summary:

The School of Architecture at Florida Atlantic University invites applicants for a full-time, tenure-track faculty appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor to commence August 2026. The ideal candidate will have an expertise in performance-driven environmental design. In addition to research and service requirements, the successful candidate will be expected to teach two design studios and two hands-on required technical courses (Environmental Technology 1 and 2) each academic year. More specifically, the successful candidate will have the opportunity to coordinate a design studio, which integrates natural daylighting simulation and passive design strategies.

The FAU School of Architecture is continuing to contribute to the growing complexities associated with the cultural and technological project of architecture. The vision of FAU School of Architecture is to blend innovative research-based methods with professional practice conventions. We as a school and academic family embrace pragmatic constraints as poetic design opportunities, while we tackle the most challenging problems of our time. In particular, the school places an emphasis and focus on three areas: technology, environment and community. How will technology transform the practice of architecture? How can we reduce the carbon footprint of how we build? How can we design strategies for urban areas which are prone to flooding? How do we design public space and affordable housing? These are some of the questions which we will continue to explore as a means to project possible futures for the discourse of architecture.

As part of that vision, the school has begun to transform traditional design studio spaces into research labs, which are also teaching labs. These labs include the Architectural Products Lab, Creative AI Lab, Foldable Structures and Materials Lab, Interactive Machines Lab, and Microbial Assemblies Lab. In 2024, Florida Atlantic University received the Tambellini Future Campus Award Category Winner for Innovation in AI and Technology Integration because of the School of Architecture’s pedagogical approach to AI. The successful candidate may have an opportunity to build a new research and teaching lab within the School of Architecture.

The School of Architecture offers a NAAB accredited five-year Bachelor of Architecture degree and an interdisciplinary Ph.D. in Comparative Studies in Design, Aesthetics and the Arts. In the near future, the School plans to launch a new Master of Science in Architecture with concentrations in Creative AI, Resilient Design, and Design Ethics.
