The Department of Marine Geosciences at the Rosenstiel School of Marine, Atmospheric, and Earth Science invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position at the Assistant Professor level in the broad field of Paleoceanography. The anticipated start date is August 2026.  We seek an innovative and dynamic scientist who will develop a vigorous, externally funded research program that complements and expands existing departmental strengths. Candidates should be data- and problem-oriented and have expertise in reconstructing past oceanographic conditions using sediment cores, microfossil assemblages, geochemical proxies (including new proxy development), and/or geophysical approaches. The successful candidate is expected to contribute to both undergraduate and graduate teaching, supervise student research, and actively participate in departmental and university service. The University of Miami offers a unique tropical location and the opportunity to integrate oceanographic, atmospheric, and biological expertise into process-oriented geological research through collaboration with faculty in the departments of Atmospheric Sciences, Ocean Sciences, Environmental Science and Policy, and Marine Biology and Ecology at the Rosenstiel School.

Qualifications:

  • Ph.D. in Marine Geology, Geophysics, Oceanography, Earth Science, or a closely related field by the time of appointment.
  • Demonstrated potential for excellence in research and scholarship.
  • Commitment to high-quality teaching and mentoring.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • A record of publication in peer-reviewed journals.
  • Demonstrated ability or strong potential to secure external research funding.
  • Experience working in interdisciplinary and/or international research settings.
