Assistant Professor in Electrical Engineering

The Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Grand Valley State University's Seymour and Esther Padnos College of Engineering is pleased to announce an opening for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position within our Electrical Engineering programs to start in August 2026, subject to funding approval.

We seek a candidate committed to excellence in teaching, curriculum development, scholarship, and service at both the university and professional levels.

GVSU’s Electrical Engineering offerings include an ABET-accredited BSE degree and an MSE degree focused on professional practice and applied research. The BSE program is distinguished by its strong experiential learning components, including a mandatory three-semester cooperative education experience through partnerships with local industries. Graduates from these programs are exceptionally well-prepared for careers in the industrial sector or for pursuing further advanced studies.

Required Qualifications and Education:

  • Applicants must have a doctorate degree in Electrical Engineering or a closely related field.
  • Applicants must possess excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • They must be committed to the highest quality of laboratory and project-based teaching along with scholarly and professional development.
  • Applicants with expertise in all areas of electrical engineering are encouraged to apply.
  • Applicants must possess expertise with electronic instrumentation and proficiency in structured programming languages.

Preferred Qualifications and Education:

  • The following expertise areas are particularly sought: signal processing and communications.
  • Additional preferred qualifications include experience related to teaching, practice, recruiting and managing projects, collaborating with industrial partners, securing external funding, and collaborations outside of electrical engineering.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Teaching: The primary focus of GVSU’s faculty should be their ability to teach fundamental classes across the entire electrical engineering curriculum, while also offering advanced courses in their area of expertise. This includes developing and delivering their own teaching materials, maintaining and operating a teaching focused laboratory, and providing detailed and prompt feedback to their students. 
  • Scholarship: Secondary, faculty are expected to pursue professional development and scholarship in both the technical and engineering education in a manner that supports both undergraduate and master student participation in research.
  • Service: Faculty are also expected to support the operations of the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering and Padnos College of Engineering. They should expand GVSU’s influence through occasional outreach activities, community support, and involvement with professional societies.

Salary & Benefits: Minimum starting salary of $90,000, commensurate with experience.
