The Admission Counselor reports to the Senior Director of Admission for the College of Performing Arts. The incumbent is a dynamic and enthusiastic professional who will work independently and in a team environment to recruit highly qualified students into the performing arts programs at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. The Admission Counselor will be a performing arts specialist while also representing the myriad educational offerings at The New School to students and families, faculty and influencer networks. 

This position requires extensive travel throughout the United States and possibly some international travel as planned. The incumbent must be flexible to work weekends and evenings during high travel and other high volume admission times.

CORE CAPABILITIES, PRIMARY DUTIES, AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Represents performing arts programs in the areas of classical music (Mannes School of Music), the School of Jazz and Contemporary Music, the School of Drama, and across The New School in a full range of recruitment and admission activities and special events both on and off campus.

  • Engage students, conduct group information sessions, and travel throughout the United States to represent The New School at high schools, community colleges, college fairs, public and service organizations, and performing arts festivals.

  • Serve as liaison with Performing Arts faculty and administration to ensure ongoing and productive collaboration on events, application/audition review, and yield/retention efforts.

  • Review admission applications and credentials to determine eligibility for admission.

  • Assist in the planning and execution of all on-campus recruitment and audition events for the College of Performing Arts.

  • Field incoming communications (telephone calls and emails) from prospective students, parents, and college counselors interested in knowing or receiving information about the details of academic programs and The New School community. 

  • Assist in the development, maintenance and execution of the department’s communication plan to prospective and admitted students including making outgoing communications (telephone calls, emails and social media posts) to prospective students, parents and college counselors.

  • Initiate unsolicited leads and generate new business when appropriate.

  • Facilitate the enhancement and maintenance of the admission social media plan that is designed to engage prospective students, their families, and others who desire a relationship with performing arts at The New School.

  • Provide information, guidance, and assistance to prospective students using established procedures and policies on available programs and eligibility requirements, including the application of policies, procedures and documentation regarding the admissions process.

  • Serve as a liaison between the student and the community of The New School; and assist in the completion of necessary enrollment forms.

  • Data entry and management of data as needed, such as executing reports to assess effectiveness of admission policies and procedures. 

  • Maintain general knowledge on financial aid processes.

  • Stay current on industry trends and best practices of the profession of college admission counseling, and trends in the entertainment/performing arts industries.

  • Other duties as assigned by supervisor.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s Degree. 

  • Outstanding interpersonal skills.

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.

  • Sincere interest in working with diverse populations.

  • Valid driver’s license and passport.

  • Ability to travel throughout the United States and possibly some international travel as planned.

  • Facility with Google and Microsoft Office Suites.

  • Coursework or major in music or the dramatic arts strongly preferred.

  • Experience with CRM or databases. 

WORK MODE

On Campus - This position is primarily in-person and is based on campus to support effective in-person collaboration and engagement.
 

Hybrid work arrangements may be considered on a case-by-case basis, depending on the nature of the role and operational needs. Any such arrangement must be discussed and approved in advance by the appropriate division lead or their designee. #LI-ONSITE

SALARY RANGE

$64,350 - $65,000 per annum
