About this role

Responsible for student advisement and supporting activities for students that are transitioning to the next degree level. Provides guidance to students regarding programs and services of the College in preparation for entrance to a bachelor’s degree program at the College, or transfer to another institution.

What a day of an Academic Transition Advisor looks like:

  • Meets with students in groups and individually to identify and connect prior learning to degree completion. Assists students with setting goals and planning for college transition.

  • Advises students on course of study, course offerings, required testing, and pre-requisites. Provides equivalencies for course requisites at the College and other institutions.

  • Maintains a library of resources including careers, college programs, and transferrable courses. Refers students to services that help them overcome educational barriers.

  • Guides assigned caseload of students with program selection, program planning, and enrollment information and assistance. Follows up with each student in the assigned caseload to identify and resolve any barriers to success.

  • Utilizes advising specific technology, frameworks, and platforms to manage caseload. Assists students with utilizing a variety of communication and delivery formats.

  • Helps students navigate issues that arise related to progress towards academic goals and transfer requirements.

  • Counsels students regarding their adaptability to a college environment. Analyzes test results and identifies areas requiring further attention.

  • Addresses requests from parents and students regarding programs, transfers, and degrees. May conduct workshops with parents regarding College or program information requirements.

  • Assists with planning, developing, and presenting transfer information sessions and transfer fairs.

  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree

  • One year of related experience

Knowledge of:

  • Microsoft Office Professional or similar application

  • Student success platforms

  • Student development theories

Skilled in:                

  • Attention to detail while maintaining effective time and task management

  • Managing and resolving conflict in a positive manner

  • Using various video conference platforms

Ability to:

  • Effectively communicate verbally and in writing on a regular basis with internal and external customers, build relationships, manage customer expectations and take responsibility for a high level of service

  • Interact in a positive manner with diverse populations and varying education levels of students, faculty, staff, and the public

  • Work with individual students to develop multiple models of academic success

  • Organize and prioritize multiple, competing priorities to maximize personal and team effectiveness

  • Work in a variety of settings to deliver services to students without a decrease in performance

Licenses, Registration, Certifications, or Special Requirements:

  • Regular physical attendance required

  • Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) within 30 days of employment

  • Some periods throughout the year will require extended work hours including nights, weekends, and college closures

  • Requires travel between campus locations

Skilled in:                

  • Effectively communicate verbally and in writing in English and Spanish

Work Environment and Physical Demand:

  • Reach and grasp objects

  • Stoop, bend, kneel, crouch, or crawl

  • Use of manual dexterity and fine motor skills

  • Receive and understand information through oral and written communication

  • Experience exposure to uncomfortable work environment due to extreme temperature, noise level, and other conditions

  • Operate a motor vehicle

  • Work a fluctuating work schedule

The minimum base pay for this position starts at $44,587.00 annually; however, the offer may vary based on the candidate’s education and experience.
