Your Opportunity 

Transition To Work is highly successful life changing program that helps young people aged between 15 to 24 transition to sustainable work or ongoing education. The program has a strong focus on providing support to those who have left school early, or who are having difficulty finding work after school, and works together to help them to develop the skills and confidence they need to achieve their full potential and build a brighter future.

This is an on-site position based in Palmerston and ss a Youth Employment Specialist, you will be someone who thrives on supporting young people to reach their goals, who has experience and uses initiative when working with young people participating in a voluntary service.  You will advocate for your clients and provide referrals while addressing both vocational and non-vocational barriers to employment.

Your Key Responsibilities 

  • Use your knowledge of current youth challenges to connect and engage with young people building relationships built on honesty and trust
  • Work closely with the participants to build and implement an appropriate job plan that identifies their goals and desires
  • Maintain detailed case notes and meet administrative KPIs to ensure program success.
  • Conduct assessments to determine any barriers to employment
  • Provide thorough, individual pre-employment support
  • Create and facilitate activities and learning experiences that build confidence and independence.
  • Develop strong relationships with internal and external service providers to assist with suitable opportunities for the participants
  • Shortlisting for vacancies, scheduling interviews and conducting reference checks
  • Promote social activities, career exploration, and industry tours, helping young people discover their passions and potential career paths
  • Post placement support for the first 26 weeks of employment or education

Requirements for Success 

  • Significant background in Employment Services, Social Services, Social Welfare and/or Youth sectors 
  • Tertiary qualified or Diploma in a relevant field desired
  • Experience in Youth Services, Jobactive Services or case management would be desirable
  • Well-developed communication, interpersonal skills, and the ability to tailor communication appropriate to the audience
  • Ability to engage and provide support to young people experiencing risk factors in their life This will require perseverance, flexibility, and innovation.
  • Demonstrated professional approach to maintaining professional boundaries
  • Strong administration skill and report-writing ability
  • Comfortable working to deadlines and able to handle multiple competing priorities
  • First Aid & CPR Certificate is desired but not required.
  • Full driver licence with no restrictions

Before starting work with us, you will need to undertake a national police history check, qualifications, and referee checks, and have a clearance to work with children/vulnerable people.
