OVERVIEW: The Laurent Clerc National Deaf Education Center at Gallaudet University is a federally funded center with exemplary elementary and secondary education programs for deaf and hard of hearing students and is tasked with developing and disseminating innovative curricula, instructional techniques, and products nationwide while providing information, training, and technical assistance for parents and professionals to meet the needs of deaf and hard of hearing students from birth to age 21.

The Head Coach’s primary responsibility is to develop and implement an exemplary athletic program that will effectively provide the best possible education for each student-athlete.
Job Description:
Principal Accountabilities:
- Coordinate with the KDES Wrestling Program to establish a pathway for nurturing future young athletes.
- Participate in the selection process of wrestling coaches for KDES and MSSD through interview committees.
- Facilitate the improvement and enhancement of athletic skills and team performance for wrestling student athletes.
- Stay updated on new trends, ideas, and techniques in wrestling coaching.
- Promote the value of physical fitness, teamwork, and sportsmanship.
- Develop training programs and game plans for the team..
- Assist Athletic Coordinators in scheduling games, practices, transportation, and meals.
- Coordinate and supervise coaching staff to ensure effective program implementation.
- Provide training and support to assistant coaches on techniques, skills, philosophy, rules, and strategies.
- Conduct regular meetings with coaching staff throughout the sports season.
- Evaluate assistant coaches and submit signed reports at the end of the season.
- Attend DCSAA rules meetings and ensure compliance with regulations.
- Ensure all athletic activities adhere to the regulations set forth by DCSAA, PVAC, and NDIAA.
- Ensure compliance with district policies and regulations.
- Monitor student-athlete eligibility and adherence to training and behavior standards.
- Establish and communicate team rules to players and parents, ensuring fair enforcement.
- Adhere to supervising student-athletes, emergency protocols, the student code of conduct, and safety protocols across all activities, including but not limited to locker room and bus safety, to ensure their safety and well-being.
- Promptly report any injuries and incidents, including but not limited to discrimination, bullying, harassment, and hazing, to Athletic Coordinators and Athletic Director.
- Communicate effectively with every member of the school district and community.
- Cultivate positive public relations for the Wrestling program through program development, presentations, and media communication.
- Work effectively with the team in fundraising efforts to earn funds for travel, food, sports attire, and equipment.
- Provide team rosters and records to Athletic Coordinators as required.
- Obtain approval for all activities and expenditures from Athletic Coordinators or Athletic Director.
- React productively to change and handle other assigned tasks.
- Support the value of education.
- Support the philosophy and vision of the MSSD Athletics Department.
- Attend mandatory MSSD Coaches Orientation, Sports Awards Voting meeting, and Sports Banquet.
- Adhere to district health and safety policies at all times.
- Establish and maintain a positive and supportive working relationship with co-workers and supervisor.
- Demonstrate a genuine commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion in the place and participate in activities and workshops to foster continuous learning.
- Serve as a mandatory reporter under Title IX; and commits to completing Title IX training and other compliance requirements on an annual basis.
- Perform related and other duties as needed.

- Required Clerc HR Orientation Training: November 1st, 2024
- All employees hired must undergo and pay for a background investigation if selected for the job and must be cleared before starting the first day on the job. Current fee for the investigation is $35.50 and the fee can be higher if you are from out-of-state.
