The Opportunity  

Reporting to the Team Lead and based in Sugar Grove, OH, the successful candidate will be responsible for supporting pipeline construction activity with welding activities associated with pipeline maintenance. The incumbent will perform various duties on high pressure pipelines. 

  • This position requires some travel (50%) in support of pipeline construction activities. This position is overtime eligible and may require extended work hours.  
  • Minimum schedule will be 10-hour days, 4 days per week. 

What you’ll do 

  • Provide welding, cellulose (mild steel) and low hydrogen, and other construction related support to Construction Services 
  • Participate in pre-job planning and staging equipment and resources prior to executing work activities 
  • Coordinate work activities and provide active control to third party contractors and able to work with and oversee contractors 
  • Welding branch connections on high pressure natural gas pipeline systems in preparation for hot-tap work 
  • Shop fabrication welding of piping assemblies and hydro testing 
  • Assistance and preparation of pre-job documentation 
  • Job Safety Analysis (JSA); review and creation of JSA's 
  • Ensure all work tasks and duties comply with TransCanada's Operating Procedures (TOPs), Community, Safety and Environment policies, procedures, and related state legislation 
  • Provide support for emergency pipeline repairs to both natural gas and oil pipeline systems 
  • Hot tap high pressure pipelines 
  • Other tasks as required

Minimum Qualifications 

  • High school diploma or GED 
  • 3 or more years’ experience in pipeline construction or related field 
  • Experience welding on high pressure natural gas and/or oil pipeline systems, cellulose (mild steel) and low hydrogen. 
  • High degree of respect for safe work habits and the care and maintenance of tools 
  • Knowledge of labor, safety, and environmental regulations 
  • Proven strong planning and organization skills 
  • Ability to work independently and make decisions with minimal direction 
  • Capacity to understand company practices and procedures and develop/apply site specific procedures 
  • Effective interpersonal skills and ability to work well in a team environment 
  • Time management skills 
  • Willingness to learn and work towards continuous improvement 
  • Ability to work with a computer and interface with management systems for expense preparation, timesheet reporting, and e-mail 
  • Knowledge of API 1104 welding regulations 
  • Applicant must demonstrate ability to pass welding test per API 1104 regulations prior to hiring

Preferred Qualifications 

  • Post-secondary education in a related field or a welding certificate 
  • Knowledge of TD Williamson tapping equipment 
  • Familiarity with MS Office including Word and Excel or similar software 
  • This position requires candidates to 
  • Have and maintain a valid driver’s license (CDL preferred) and safe driving record 
  • Successfully complete a pre-employment medical screening, including drug and alcohol testing 
  • Be subject to call out 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and extended workdays and/or workweeks for emergency response purposes 
  • Frequent travel to other company locations to support construction activities, which will involve overnight stays away from home
