The Water Infrastructure Utility Locator position in the City of Tucson’s Water department determine and mark locations of underground utility construction facilities using valve maps, geographic maps, construction plans, system as-builts, and various electronic locating devices. Assures regulatory compliance by responding to AZ811 locate tickets and assists contractors, customers, and Tucson Water staff with projects.
Work is performed under the supervision of the Water Program Superintendent. This position does not supervise.
Essential duties include but are not limited to:
Responds to AZ811 ticket requests for utility location services, interpreting various print documentation and electronic records to determine utility locations in the field.
Provides a physical indication of the utilities’ field location using a variety of marking methods, i.e., paint, flags, etc. Provides requestors with the location information as required by Arizona’s “Call Before You Dig” law.
Responds to utility location requests from internal and external stakeholders, for design, investigation, research and inspection effectively and efficiently.
Operates a motor vehicle and uses Ground Penetrating Radar equipment to locate difficult utility locations.
Responds to reports of contractor damaged water lines. Participate in investigations to determine fault and maintains accurate documentation regarding the situation.
Creates and submits afterhours tickets via ticket management systems for utility maintenance crews for emergency repairs.
Performs other duties and tasks as assigned.
Working Conditions:
This position is a primary driver and will be expected to operate a city vehicle. Must have open availability. Must be able to work in various working/climate conditions. Indoor and outdoor work with heavy exposure to extreme physical, ergonomic, or emotional hazardous environment.
This position requires participation in a rotating on-call schedule.
