Summary:
The School of International Service is seeking a creative and enthusiastic graduate student to join our Communications & Marketing team as a Visual Content Designer. This position offers an excellent opportunity to gain hands-on professional experience in content creation, branding, and digital storytelling while showcasing SIS student life and faculty research.
Essential Functions:
Graphic Design: Create eye-catching graphics and visual content for Instagram and other platforms to highlight SIS programs, events, student experiences, and faculty research. Develop templates and design systems to establish a cohesive, recognizable look across our social media channels.
Brand Consistency: Help maintain and evolve a consistent visual identity for SIS social media that engages our audiences and reflects our community.
Photography and Videography: Occasionally capture photos and videos or edit short-form video content to supplement graphic design work.
Storytelling: Develop creative ways to showcase what makes SIS unique—from student perspectives to groundbreaking faculty research and community engagement.
Ideation and Planning: Collaborate with Communications & Marketing staff to brainstorm content ideas, pitch concepts, and contribute to overall content strategy.
Trend Analysis: Stay informed on social media trends, platform best practices, and emerging content formats to keep our channels fresh and engaging.
Position Type/Expected Hours of Work:
Part-time.
Student.
5 - 10 hours per week.
Must be available to work in person Monday - Thursday, 9 a.m. - 5 p.m.
Salary Range:
$18.50 - $22.00 per hour (commensurate with experience).
Required Education and Experience:
Must hold a bachelor’s degree and be a current American University graduate student.
Strong proficiency in graphic design tools (Adobe Creative Suite, Canva, etc.).
Preferred Education and Experience:
Previous experience working at AU campus office.
Ideal candidate will hold a Federal Work Study award that is not already being used but not required.
