Summary

We are looking for a Vice President to join our newly formed Product Engineering group. This role is a senior individual contributor who combines deep technical expertise with strong product sense, AI fluency, and mentoring capability. This role is designed for a hands-on engineer who can architect scalable systems, mentor teammates, and bring a product mindset to shape the future of Oaktree’s digital platforms. This role will bring a holistic view of technology, user experience, and business value—embedding AI into how we think, build, and deliver. They will help ensure that Oaktree’s products are not just reliable and powerful, but expressive, intuitive, and continuously improving through the thoughtful use of emerging technologies.

Qualifications

  • 10+ years of experience in software engineering.
  • Proven success as a senior individual contributor or staff/principal engineer in enterprise or financial technology settings.
  • Demonstrated ability to connect technical execution with user needs and business outcomes.
  • Strong understanding of modern architectures (cloud-native, microservices, data-driven systems).
  • Experience leveraging AI-assisted development and product tools for design, testing, and delivery.
  • Hands-on experience with modern programming languages, frameworks, and DevOps toolchains.
  • Skilled at mentoring engineers and influencing without authority.
  • Excellent communicator who can think in both systems and stories.

Responsibilities:

  • Serve as a senior technical and product thought partner, translating business needs into high-quality engineering solutions.
  • Lead design and implementation of key product capabilities—owning architecture, performance, and maintainability.
  • Leverage AI-assisted development tools (e.g., GitHub Copilot, ChatGPT, and AI testing frameworks) to enhance speed, code quality, and creative problem-solving.
  • Bring a product mindset to engineering: define MVPs, experiment with solutions, iterate quickly, frame problems in terms of user value, prioritize impact, and simplify complexity; own discovery and roadmap planning to define feasible, high-value solutions.
  • Contribute to long-term product vision and platform architecture that enable scale, flexibility, and reusability.
  • Advocate for the responsible use of AI in engineering workflows, emphasizing transparency, validation, and ethical data practices.
  • Encourage vibe coding sessions—collaborative, high-energy pairing where teams experiment with AI tools to accelerate problem-solving and explore new approaches.
  • Provide design reviews, code reviews, and architecture coaching to strengthen team craft.
  • Provide technical direction, assist with backlog planning, and delivery prioritization.
  • Flex into product management responsibilities as needed—helping to define product OKRs, shape roadmaps, and deeply understand user needs and workflows to ensure engineering efforts align with business outcomes.
  • Lead by example through vibe coding—setting the tone for engineering excellence by pairing, prototyping, and co-building with teams using AI to translate ideas into tangible outcomes.
  • Embrace AI as a core enabler of productivity, creativity, and quality—using it to streamline documentation, code review, analytics, and design iteration.
  • Take ownership of key product modules or APIs—ensuring reliability, scalability, and measurable business impact.
  • Implement modern development and release practices (CI/CD, feature flags, automated testing, AI-assisted QA).
  • Ensure delivery is aligned with both technical quality and user value.
  • Communicate trade-offs clearly, framing technical choices in terms of business and user outcomes.
  • Champion data-driven experimentation and continuous feedback loops enhanced by AI analytics and observability tools.
  • Contribute to cross-functional strategy discussions to evolve Oaktree’s product engineering model toward a more automated, adaptive, and insight-driven future.

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field required.
  • Advanced degree (MS, MBA) or equivalent experience in product-focused engineering leadership preferred.

Base Salary Range

$190,000-$225,000

In addition to a competitive base salary, you will be eligible to receive discretionary bonus incentives, a comprehensive benefits package and a flexible work arrangement.  The base salary offered will be commensurate with experience and/or qualifications, industry knowledge and expertise, as well as prior training and education.
