The Role

As a member of the Connected Vehicle Experience Research Lab, you will be working with the Biosensing, Information Display, & Simulation group.  You will be applying your expertise in autonomous vehicles, robotics, data science, and vehicle simulation for developing innovative approaches to hardware-in-the-loop-based vehicle simulation and in-vehicle integration of automated driving systems.  As a researcher in this group, you will implement your solutions in hardware-in-the-loop simulation environments and on vehicles and publish your research findings in peer-reviewed journals to extend the reach of General Motors’ development of next-generation technology. This will also include interfacing with universities, research institutes, and other advanced technology laboratories to build a network for amplifying your research.

What You'll Do

  • Develop hardware-in-the-loop simulation solutions for automated driving-enabled vehicles
  • Create tools to aid in the development or deployment of ADAS systems
  • Implement solutions developed in simulation onto vehicles
  • Participate in government-funded research work, such as the NASA Lunar Terrain Vehicle
  • Document your research through internal and external publications
  • Facilitate technology transfer via active participation in cross-functional teams

Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications)

  • MS Degree in a science, technology, engineering, or mathematics-related field
  • Research experience in at least one of the following areas:  Autonomous Vehicle Technology, Connected Vehicles, Robotics, Zero Barrier Mobility/Accessibility, Vehicle Dynamics, Simulation, or other related areas
  • Strong theoretical, experimental or software programming skills

What Will Give You A Competitive Edge (Preferred Qualifications)

  • PhD in a science, technology, engineering, or mathematics-related field
  • Hands-on experience with CAN bus communication
  • Familiarity with ROS or ROS 2 robotics framework
  • Hands-on experience with hardware-in-the-loop simulation
  • Experience with data analysis or AI/Machine Learning for engineering applications
  • Demonstrates leadership in field of study, extra-curricular activities, or service organizations

The position is subject to export control restrictions and requires the successful candidate to be either a U.S. Person (U.S. citizen, U.S. permanent resident, asylee or refugee) or a non-U.S. Person who is eligible to obtain any required export control authorization.
