PRIMARY FUNCTION:

 

Diagnose and determine cause and location of failures and malfunctions and perform the operations necessary to repair, rebuild, replace equipment, components and systems on machine tools, equipment, stationary engines, rolling stock, electromechanical welding machines (tube weld fixtures), tube expanders, robotic plasma shape cutting machines, hydrostatic pressure test systems, high pressure media blast and paint delivery systems, paint abatement systems, mechanized material handling carts, mechanized assembly fixtures, ovens, furnaces, steam clean systems, and other mechanical drive, hydraulic and pneumatic systems used in production where methods, tools and instructions are normally not provided.

 

(Note:  scope is limited to installation, assembly or removal and replacement of systems and components.  This does not include performing fabrication work related to implementation of design changes driven by new special tool drawings or existing revisions)

 

TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT:

 

Machine tools, such as lathe, mill, drill press and power saw. Automatic testing instruments, such as dwell, tachometer, timing light and volt meter. Various hand tools and measuring instruments, such as, wrenches, torque wrench, micrometers, dial indicators, theodolite, optical beaming equipment, laser interferometer, safety equipment, etc.

 

MATERIAL:

 

Ferrous and non‑ferrous materials, pipe, bearings, lubricating and cooling liquids, automobiles, trucks, fork trucks, stationary engines, locomotives and mobile cranes. Various manual and CNC/DNC machine tools, hydraulic systems, replacement parts, engines, transmissions, differentials, batteries, etc.

WORKING PROCEDURE:

 

THE FOLLOWING ARE THE USUAL MAJOR JOB DUTIES BUT THIS DESCRIPTION DOES NOT PRECLUDE THE PERFORMANCE OF OTHER DUTIES BY THE INCUMBENT, NOR THE QUESTION BEING RAISED ON THE PROPER RATE FOR THE ASSIGNMENT.

1.      Receive work assignment from supervision.

2.      Read and follow safety regulations, work authorizations, specifications and service manuals.

3.      Assist in diagnosing equipment, component and system failures and malfunctions and identify defective parts. Use special test equipment as required.

4.      Remove and replace defective parts or make or repair parts by setting up and operating various

         machines to turn, bore, drill, mill and tap to size.

5.      Repair pumps. Fill with oil or other fluids as required.

6.      Level, scrape and align ways, beds and spindles and realign tailstocks. Make, install and scrape

         bearings requiring precise and accurate workmanship.

7.      Maintain inventory of frequently used parts, such as, bearings, seals, plugs, hoses, clamps, wire

         valves, water pumps, voltage regulators, fluids and fittings.

8.      Maintain and repair lubricating, hydraulic and cooling systems oh machine tools, equipment,

         stationary engines and rolling stock by checking and replenishing fluid, setting and adjusting for proper flow rates and performance.

9.      Check machine, equipment and stationary engines for proper operation in accordance

         with preventative maintenance programs and schedules.

10.    Check work, fits, wear and operation using measuring instruments, tools, gauges, etc.

11.    Mount and level machines tools by placing on previously located studs by shimming under pads as required.

12.    Maintain tools, equipment and work area in a clean and orderly condition.

13.    Make proper time charge entries and record data as required.

14.    Perform work of equal or lower classification as required.

This is a union position.

Basic Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent GED and/or Trade School.
  • Minimum of 2 years experience using drawings, blueprints, and technical manuals to perform preventive and corrective maintenance in troubleshooting and repairing hydraulic, pneumatic, and mechanical systems.
  • Minimum of 2 years experience using hand and power tools, welding equipment, and precision measuring instruments, such as torque wrenches, micrometers, dial indicators, theodolite and optical beaming equipment.
  • Must be able to lift and maneuver up to 35lbs regularly.
  • Minimum of 2 years experience utilizing safety protocols such as LOTO (Lock Out Tag Out), PPE (Personal Protective Equipment e.g. face shields, gloves), & PAPR (Positive Air Purifier Respirator).
  • Minimum of 2 years maintaining parts inventory and work order record keeping using Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS).
  • US Citizenship required.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Certificate of Completion of a formal apprenticeship or vocational (civilian or military) training in industrial maintenance or mechanical systems.
  • Minimum 2 years experience in a manufacturing or heavy industrial environment.
  • Minimum 2 years experience in predictive maintenance technologies such as vibration analysis, thermography, and oil analysis.
  • Minimum 2 years experience operating forklift and aerial work platforms.
