Job Summary: This position is located at Schofield Barracks Auto Skills Center on Schofield Barracks, on the Island of Oahu. Incentives and Bonuses Incentives will not be paid. Major Duties:

  • Responsible for the administration, safe operation, custody, and maintenance of the self-help program within the auto crafts center.
  • Provides technical assistance/training to patrons in the performance of self help automotive repairs ranging from the simple to the more complex automotive including overhaul of engines and transmissions, and bodywork.
  • Informs patrons of shop policies and provides instruction on safe and efficient operation of all equipment and associated tools. Provides individual and class instruction to military personnel and other eligible patrons.
  • Develops lesson plans and prepares training aids and other instructional materials. Plans publicity. Recommends acquisition of new equipment. Complies data for reports and writes reports as necessary.
  • Provides technical guidance and leadership to employees. Trains new employees. Directs work and provides instructions on tasks. Collects fees and safeguards funds and equipment. Orders equipment and supplies.

A qualified candidate must possess the following, Minimum Qualifications: 1. Have three (3) years of general work experience that may have been gained as a teacher or instructor; in on-the-job supervision or instruction of subordinates or fellow workers; or in work involving application of the principles, practices, and techniques in the automotive field, OR Have a four (4)-year course of study leading to a bachelor's degree with a major study of education or a subject area related to the automotive field. 2. Be able to obtain certification to conduct Hawaii State Vehicle Inspections within one year of appointment.
