Job Title: Test Engineer

Location: Bidadi (MillerKnoll India Test Lab)

Job Purpose

The primary purpose of this role is to ensure the MillerKnoll India Testing Lab remains fully operational, accurate, and efficient in its support of product conformance, regulatory compliance, localization and new product development. The Test Engineer will own lab infrastructure performance, including test equipment calibration, maintenance, and optimization. This role includes designing and specifying custom test fixtures and instrumentation, supporting lab operations, and executing product testing in collaboration with the Conformance Manager and Global Product Performance team.

Key Responsibilities

Lab Equipment and Infrastructure Management

- Maintain all test and measurement equipment in calibrated and operational condition per ISO and BIS requirements.
- Specify, procure, and validate test equipment, ensuring alignment with industry best practices and applicable Indian Standards.
- Design and develop custom test fixtures, software tools, and instrumentation to support both manual and automated testing.

Test Execution and Technical Leadership

- Perform or oversee mechanical, durability, and performance testing of furniture, electrical components, or assemblies under BIS and internal standards.
- Collaborate with product engineers to define test procedures and innovate testing methods to reduce cycle time and improve repeatability.
- Analyze complex data sets, write comprehensive reports, and communicate insights and deviations to cross-functional stakeholders.
- Develop and document standard operating procedures (SOPs) for test methods, calibration, and preventive maintenance schedules.

Training and Team Enablement

- Train and mentor lab technicians on testing protocols, equipment use, and data integrity standards.
- Act as the technical resource for test method queries and equipment troubleshooting.
- Provide consultative support for test planning and post-test failure analysis.

Secondary Responsibilities

- Support the Performance Engineering and Regulatory teams in interpreting and implementing new BIS Quality Control Orders (QCOs) and IS standards.
- Collaborate with external machine builders, test labs, and certification bodies (e.g., BIS-accredited ISO 17025 labs).

- Contribute to securing NABL accreditation of the test lab
- Coordinate test sample preparation, documentation, and reporting for product certification applications.

- Prepare detailed test reports summarizing methods, observations, results, and conclusions.

- Audit internal test processes and assist in external lab evaluations as needed.

Minimum Qualifications

- Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent technical field).
- Minimum 3 years of experience in a test engineering or product qualification role.
- Experience with mechanical test instrumentation: Load cells, strain gauges, displacement sensors, accelerometers, data acquisition systems (DAQs).
- Proven project management experience in capital equipment procurement and qualification.
- Proficiency with test automation or data acquisition platforms (e.g., LabView, TestStand, Python, or similar).

Preferred Qualifications

- Experience working in ISO 17025 accredited test labs or setting up in-house test facilities.
- Knowledge of BIS regulations, furniture standards (IS 17631–17636), and compliance workflows.
- Familiarity with furniture performance standards (BIFMA, ANSI, EN, or BIS).
- Understanding of reliability engineering principles and statistical data analysis.
- Familiarity with Pro-E (Creo), AutoCAD, and MS Office tools for documentation and equipment layout.
- Exposure to Lotus Notes, SAP, or PLM systems.
