Program Description: 
This position supports the National Weather Service (NWS) Next Generation Radar (NEXRAD) Radar Operations Center (ROC), located in Norman, Oklahoma. As part of the Program Branch Team, you will contribute to the sustainment and modernization of 158 Doppler weather radars that provide critical tornado and severe weather warning observations across the Continental U.S., Alaska, Hawaii, Puerto Rico, Guam, and Korea. The ROC oversees all phases of the hardware and software lifecycle, including business and technical applications, facility support, program management, and quality assurance. This contract includes collaboration with stakeholders from the NWS, Department of Transportation, and the United States Air Force.

You will be a member of the Systems Documentation Team (SDT), which evaluates and reviews proposed changes that impact technical documentation and provides cost and time estimates for these impacts. SDT is responsible for developing and updating maintenance and operations manuals for the WSR-88D Next Generation Weather Radar and Supplemental Product Generator, as well as software specifications maintained by the ROC. SDT also generates and distributes modification, software, and maintenance documentation for these systems and the National Level II network, supporting the NWS, USAF, and FAA.

Job Responsibilities: 
-Develop and maintain technical documentation for NEXRAD radar equipment, ensuring accuracy, clarity, and consistency.
-Collaborate with subject matter experts (SMEs) to gather information and ensure technical accuracy of documentation.
Write and edit technical documents such as user manuals, installation guides, maintenance procedures, and technical specifications.
-Utilize expertise in Adobe Frame Maker and Acrobat to format and publish documentation in various formats, ensuring accessibility and usability.
-Demonstrate proficiency in modification and documentation processes, ensuring compliance with industry standards and regulations.
-Collaborate with cross-functional teams including engineers, product managers, and quality assurance personnel to gather information and validate technical content.
-Manage documentation projects, including planning, scheduling, and coordinating tasks to meet deadlines and deliver high-quality documentation.
-Conduct reviews and audits of existing documentation, identifying areas for improvement and implementing necessary revisions.
-Communicate complex technical concepts in a clear and concise manner tailored to the target audience.
-Participate in documentation planning meetings, contributing ideas and suggestions for improving documentation processes and standards.
-Ensure documentation meets organization branding and style guidelines, maintaining consistency across all documentation products.
-Assist in the development and maintenance of templates, style guides, and other documentation tools to streamline the writing process.
-Provide support during software and hardware deployments and customer support activities, ensuring documentation meets customer needs and enhances user experience.

Job Requirements:  
-An Associate Degree in Communications, English or similar field is desired. A Bachelor of Arts degree is preferred. Relevant technical experience may be substituted for education on a case-by-case basis.
-At least one year of experience in writing and editing technical documentation.
-Experience in writing and editing technical documentation on radar equipment is highly desirable.
-Knowledge of the modification and documentation processes is highly desirable.
-Knowledge of Adobe Frame Maker (General and Structured) is highly desirable.
-Strong communication and technical writing skills.
-Ability to support projects with minimal supervision.
-Ability to multitask and prioritize.
-Occasional travel may be required.
