Remote - International Full time

Job Description:

Location:  Remote-U.S. or Europe, requires international travel.

About MiQ

MiQ’s mission is to increase emissions transparency in oil and gas supply chains through market-based structures and their integration into an ever-evolving policy landscape. Since launching in 2020, MiQ has certified greater than 20% of US gas production to its Methane Performance Standard and is fast expanding its program globally.

MiQ is the global leader in methane certification for oil and gas emissions and collaborates with multiple international organizations, industry associations, respected universities, and government agencies and regulators.

MiQ is a not-for-profit with an ambitious methane mission which operates as a combination of an innovating startup and a global thought-leader: experimentation, continuous learning, nimble and agile implementation are balanced with rigorous research, science-based methodologies, expert market and operational insights and of course…measurable methane impact.

MiQ has launched performances standards for oil and gas operators, a system of third-party audits, and a voluntary certification program based on audits by operators in the oil and gas supply chain to demonstrate their environmental performance to natural gas buyers. MiQ is also developing tools to help buyers understand supply chain emissions risk.

Your Role

You will help design the next generation of MiQ’s technical products with an eye on clearly communicating emissions performance to oil and gas buyers. This will include building scalable solutions that voluntary markets and regulators will trust, building upon continuously emerging technical expertise in greenhouse gas emissions management and quantification. This role is ideal for someone with great attention-to-detail, high emotional intelligence, and an eagerness to collaborate externally with a myriad of stakeholders to solve complex and evolving emissions challenges.

You will face the complex challenge of weaving exciting and pioneering decarbonization concepts and solutions into a historically conservative and globally complex oil and gas environment, whilst needing to bring along influential stakeholders amongst NGO, private sector, and research communities during the journey. MIQ balances precision with pragmatism and will not advocate unimplementable ideas simply for the sake of them. We believe real environmental impact comes from pragmatism and action, not from theory.

You will succeed if you thrive in an environment where you are measured to deliver real impact by growing methane certification and abatement and are inspired to improve environmental outcomes in the real world.

We are seeking an expert with corporate experience in oil and gas emissions management; a demonstrated background of methane quantification best practice frameworks such as OGMP 2.0, GTI Veritas, or MiQ; an understanding of assurance frameworks; and, exposure to environmental management systems and corporate greenhouse gas reporting. You will partner closely with MiQ’s senior team and CEO, along with the global ecosystem of hundreds of operators, auditors, emissions mitigation technology services, methane monitoring and quantification providers, and reporting software firms.

What You’ll Do:

  • Serve as MiQ’s central technical authority for its standards, accreditation and assurance processes, and supply chain tools.

  • Represent MiQ as the methane and certification expert at international forums, associations, working groups.

  • Lead the evolution of MiQ’s products and assurance processes.

  • Closely leverage external stakeholders to drive improvements to MiQ’s technical offerings.

  • Communicate MiQ’s value-proposition to various stakeholders ranging from industry actors to NGOs, at webinars or public panels.

What We’re Looking For:

  • 10+ years of experience within or supporting the oil and gas sector.

  • Experience in designing, developing or implementing greenhouse gas mitigation projects within the oil and gas sector. Technical with a preference for experience with methane emissions mitigation projects

  • Experience collecting, interpreting, or analyzing methane measurement data in the oil and gas sector

  • Working knowledge of relevant methane monitoring and reporting frameworks such as OGMP 2.0, GTI Veritas, and MiQ

  • Working knowledge on relevant greenhouse gas and sustainability assurance frameworks including ISO 14064-3, ISSA 5000 or relevant regulatory protocols

  • Experience with relevant carbon foot printing protocols (e.g. ISO 14067, PAS 2050:2011, or emerging carbon foot printing protocols in various heavy industry sectors)

  • Understanding of the perspectives and technical needs of a wide variety of stakeholders including technical and commercial contacts within oil and gas companies, auditors, NGOs, academic institutions, and regulatory bodies.

  • Ability to translate ambiguous problem statements into technical solutions that gain market acceptance.

  • Strong organizational skills especially in an emerging and frequently opaque space.

  • Strong analytical and technical skills. Strong technical writing skills. Typically, an engineering or science engineering background.

  • Independent thinker, self-starter, able to develop and propose solutions, iterate, and flag problems ahead of time. Can work in isolation and revert as appropriate to the team or CEO.

  • Adaptable and comfortable in a nimble, global and fully remote working organization where priorities may rapidly evolve. You will be given a significant responsibility in your area and are a senior member of the team with global responsibilities.

  • Genuine interest in decarbonization, emissions management, and topics related to the energy transition.
