Job Description:

The Team Leader manages the North American Accounts Payable team, ensuring timely transaction processing within an effective control environment. Daily duties include providing oversight, guidance and input on policies and standards. The Team Leader collaborates regularly with other Global Procurement & Payable (GPP) teams, and other business units across North America.

What will you do?

  • Oversee the North American Accounts Payable team through:

    • Invoice processing, inquiry response and supplier payments, ensuring staff adherence to timelines and terms

      • Ensure accurate tax coding

    • Monitor staff workloads and productivity to meet service standards

      • Ensure staff are tracking and documenting status for all tasks.

    • Monitor business performance metrics.

    • Foster continuous improvement and team engagement

  • Manage incoming escalation and complex issues

    • Address system issues and processing challenges

  • Run control reporting to ensure invoices are moving to payment

  • Build relationships with operational leaders and business partners across North America

  • Support internal/external audits and optimization projects

  • Participate in transformation activities (ERP implementation, process streamlining, automation)

  • Maintain and update department process documentation

  • Resolve system issues and processing challenges

  • Recruit, onboard, and manage team talent

What do you need to succeed?

  • Previous people management and coaching skills

  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills

  • Detail-oriented with a proactive approach

  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, multi-task environment

  • Proficiency in prioritizing workload and managing competing demands

  • Experience in process improvement and risk management

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)

Assets:

  • Expertise in Procurement/Accounts Payable processes and ERP systems (e.g., SAP S4 Hana, Ariba)

  • University or college degree in accounting or relevant business or financial experience.

  • Bilingualism (French, English, both oral and written).

The Base Pay range is for the primary location for which the job is posted. It may vary depending on the work location of the successful candidate or other factors. In addition to Base Pay, eligible Sun Life employees participate in various incentive plans, payment under which is discretionary and subject to individual and company performance. Certain sales focused roles have sales incentive plans based on individual or group sales results.
