BASIC PURPOSE OF THE JOB

Works independently in a team environment as the senior & subject matter expert of client server environment and assigned systems.  Works with application teams to facilitate medium to complex projects and maximize system uptime and data integrity.  Maintains physical and or virtual hardware and performs tasks that present the most risk to the environment.  Works with end users to ensure their experience with systems meets their needs and the needs of the organization.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

Minimum Education: Associates degree in computer science, server administration, or related field.       

Degree: Computer science, server administration, or related field

License/Certification Required: None

Minimum Work Experience:

  • Two years’ experience in Information Technology, server administration, or related field

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.

  • Is proactive and makes routine decisions independently.
  • Must have above average problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent organizational, time management and customer service skills.
  • Proficient in MS Office, Outlook, Excel and PowerPoint and other computer applications.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Learns to Install, Monitor and Maintain the Physical Hardware and Data Center Environments

  • Installs, cables, and configures server hardware.
  • Routinely visits data center locations to review physical conditions.
  • Monitors physical health of server and storage equipment by use of enterprise monitoring and alerting tools.
  • Documents and replaces failed hardware in a timely fashion.
  • Effectively communicates/coordinates problem resolution with users, IT personnel, and vendors.
  • Keeps data center areas clean and ensures proper storage of spare equipment.
  • Maintains the physical security of data center locations.
  • Part of on-call schedule and share coverage with the rest of the team.
  • Learns to Install/Monitor/Maintain Server, Virtual, and Storage Operating Systems and Application Software

  • Monitors OS and Application logs to ensure proper function, performance, and security of systems.
  • Monitors OS and Applications via enterprise monitoring systems
  • Creates user accounts in the various Enterprise Systems managed systems.
  • Maintains all Critical and Security patching of server OS monthly (more often if necessary).
  • Works with backup team to ensure proper backup processes are in place for assigned systems.
  • Diagnoses and resolves problems pertaining to server, virtual, and storage operating systems, and application software.
  • Effectively communicates/coordinates problem resolution with users, IT personnel, and vendors.
  • Follows the organization’s change management process for all changes to production systems.
  • Maintains security standards by allowing the least necessary permissions to systems and servers.
     
  • Documents the Organization’s Information Systems

  • Creates documentation relating to maintaining and troubleshooting information systems.
  • Performs Root Cause Analysis and follows up on documentation as necessary.
  • Works on small to medium sized Enterprise Systems and other department projects

  • Effectively communicates and participates in project team meetings.
  • Completes requested milestones in a timely fashion.
  • Escalates issues to project team and direct supervisor as necessary.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Light lifting, pushing, and pulling is required for 10-20 lbs occasionally and frequent moving of objects of less than 10 lbs is required. Frequent sitting with some walking, standing, squatting, bending, and reaching is required. Keyboard/computer use and/or repetitive motions may be required.
