Job Description:

The SVP of Strategy serves as the senior client-facing strategic lead and is hyper-focused on driving business growth through innovative media solutions. As strategic lead, the SVP demonstrates a strong understanding of client business needs, applying expertise to deliver short- and long-term solutions that create a competitive advantage. This role influences, at a high level, the development and presentation of game-changing media strategies and plans; guiding business objectives, insight generation, cultural narrative, and a strategic point-of-view (POV) on the role media can play in creating a cultural and competitive advantage. This leader pushes their teams and agencies partners to go beyond the status quo and deliver innovative and breakthrough solutions that provide measurable business impact.

They will be a creative problem solver, combining a rigorous, data-driven analytical mindset with an ability to be an innovative creative thinker. They are also in charge of delivering thought leadership and contributing to agency growth initiatives. 

Role Responsibilities:

  • Acts as the account’s strategic lead, developing and expertly articulating compelling strategic narratives that reframe client challenges into strategic media opportunities that create a competitive advantage

  • Stay at the forefront of identifying transformational business, marketing, cultural and consumer insights that unlock business advantage for key clients

  • Demonstrate a strong understanding of the media landscape to innovate how media can reach people in the most relevant and meaningful ways

  • Ensures quality of insights across 3Cs (Consumer, Competitive/Category, Cultural) and connects them in meaningful ways that deliver against business objectives & media actions

  • Identify the strategic role media can play in overcoming barriers along the customer journey; ensure teams are applying strategic media principles through planning and activation

  • Identify how brands should innovate and behave in different comms and cultural spaces to create more value for consumers

  • Demonstrate strong communication skills that challenge how a client thinks about their business

  • Architects/leads brainstorms and ideation sessions that challenge teams to develop innovative media & comms solutions 

  • Act as team lead with agency partners to ensure insights and strategy are informing/complementing other marketing, creative and comms activities

  • Lead agency thought leadership with a unique perspective; provide proactive thought leadership outreach to clients

  • Participates in Industry events to promote agency thought leadership

  • Lead the strategic component of new business pitches and demonstrate strong growth record

  • Leverage influence and expertise to increase client & agency regard for strategy & communications planning solutions

  • Proactively bring new dentsu solutions to client’s business and uncover organic growth opportunities

  • Work collaboratively with senior management, agency partners and peers to successfully contribute to the success of the agency

  • Adapt communication style to relevant audiences, which can swing from creatives through to senior business executives

  • Mentor, train and uplevel junior strategic talent

Account Fit:

  • Demonstrates mental agility to keep pace with fast speed of business – priorities change often and person must be able to flex outside their discipline to ensure storytelling is carried through

  • Develops new solutions quickly – helps the team make smarter, faster decisions and adapts to timelines as needed (i.e. solution oriented and bends to the needs of this fast-changing business)

  • A visionary who can re-imagine workflows to deliver on the needs of the business & anticipate client needs 

  • Strong understanding of category dynamics (tech/gaming/AI) and able to pivot between B2C and B2B priorities

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree

  • 12-15+ years experience in Communications Strategy or Strategic Media Planning

  • Deep expertise & understanding of multiple communications channels and their role in brand marketing

  • Strong analytic skills – ability to translate data into powerful insights; disciplined and structured problem solving skills

  • Strategic thinking ability with balanced analytical and creative approach to holistic and tactical media planning

  • Beautiful storyteller who can weave a compelling and persuasive strategic narrative

  • Demonstrated ability to provide strategic perspective and points of view when needed, based on minimal briefing (i.e. New Business chemistry checks)

  • Proven ability to quickly win client trust, at senior level, by demonstrating an expert grasp of client’s business and brand category

  • Commitment to delivering creative media solutions and award winning work

  • Strong & persuasive collaborator with the ability to align team members, agency partners, and clients, behind a shared vision

  • Dynamic presence in presentations and other forms of client or internal communications

  • Raises group proficiency – leadership, quality, efficiency

  • Excellent team feedback (direct reports and collaborative team partners)

  • Serve as an ambassador and demonstrate grace in challenging internal/external scenarios

The annual salary range for this position is $163,000-$263,350.

Placement within the salary range is based on a variety of factors, including relevant experience, knowledge, skills, and other factors permitted by law. Additionally, this position is eligible for discretionary incentive compensation.
