JOB SUMMARY: Ensures all required equipment is available and in the rooms for surgical procedures through coordinating with operating room nursing staff. Performs support duties to the Surgical Specialist I staff members by assisting with necessary patient care related to transporting, positioning, moving and sterile prepping in accordance with Age-Specific guidelines for the specific age groups served.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE: High school diploma or GED equivalent.

LICENSURE, CERTIFICATION, and/or REGISTRATION: CPR certification must be obtained within three months of hire.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: 1. Adheres to the general hospital standards to promote a cooperative work environment by utilizing Medical Center core values, appropriate and professional communication skills, developing professional interpersonal relationships and performing duties with a teamwork approach to include timely and appropriate radio communication. 2. Identifies where operating equipment is to be used based on the daily operating room schedule and returns to appropriate area(s). 3. Maintains the order and cleanliness of equipment and patient positioning device storage areas. Maintains the location of needed operating room equipment by utilization of the SPOT software system. 4. Maintains continuing education on equipment utilized in Surgical Services. Communicates malfunctioning equipment to appropriate personnel/department and maintain appropriate documentation to ensure timely follow-up and return to the operating inventory when repaired. 5. Participates in activities that ensure regulatory compliance and safety by identifying and communicating all malfunctioning equipment issues. 6. Assists surgical staff with patient care related to moving, positioning, and sterile prepping. 7. Meets all requirements for transporting patients, room turnover, and terminal cleaning of rooms and keeping PPE stocked. 8. Verifies the proper performance and documentation of daily terminal cleaning, operating room set up, and stocking of daily blanket warmer temperatures. 9. Assists with equipment inventory.

SKILLS/QUALIFICATIONS: Maintains positive working relationship with department managers, coordinators, staff, and physicians Organizational skills, manages time wisely, productive during downtime Ability to operate equipment such as operating room beds, hamper stands, linen chutes, etc. Serves as a liaison between departments, equipment vendors, and/or third party service agencies

WORK ENVIRONMENT: Possible exposure to infectious and contagious diseases Possible exposure to hazards for electrical/mechanical/power equipment Exposure to housekeeping/cleaning agents/chemicals Occasional pressure resulting from multiple calls and inquiries Possible exposure to hazardous or toxic chemicals Subject to many interruptions Subject to cuts Frequently works behind red lines (sterile environment) which requires protective equipment such as eye/face protections, operating room surgical scrubs, sterile/non-sterile gloves, shoe covers, etc.
