Job Summary: About the Position: This position is within the Directorate of Behavioral Health/Mental Health located at the Naval Hospital Camp Pendleton in California. This is a Direct Hire Solicitation. A recruitment or relocation incentive may be authorized. Salary negotiation may be available for those candidates who are new to Federal service. Non-Federal work experience may be creditable for leave purposes.

Major Duties:

  • Work under the general supervision of the Chief of Behavioral Health. Independently plan and carry out assigned duties in accordance with general psychological theories, techniques and professional practice standards.
  • Function as the authoritative source of information for the specialty of Psychology at the Medical Treatment Facility (MTF).
  • Provide guidance to the hospital commander regarding policy in Psychology issues. Provide consultations to organizational leadership and other Mental Health related health care providers.
  • Provide individual, couple, family, and/group psychological counseling utilizing a variety of treatment modalities primarily to adult patients with a wide range of emotional and psychological disorders.
  • Perform psychotherapeutic intervention or environmental modification based on scientific, evidence-based practice.
  • Conduct psychological assessment of patients with a wide variety of known or suspected psychological disorders that affect intellectual, cognitive, behavioral or emotional functioning.
  • Provide psychological and clinical consultation to other professionals and paraprofessionals through established consultation channels. Coordinate with a variety of agencies to assist with the multidisciplinary treatment of patients.
  • Serve as a Clinical Supervisor, supervising assigned professional and paraprofessional employees. Plan and assign work to be accomplish by subordinates who guide and control work.

Basic Requirement for Clinical Psychologist: Degree: Doctoral Degree (Ph.D. or equivalent) directly related to full professional work in clinical psychology. (Please upload a copy). Selective Placement Factor Licensure: This position requires a current, active, valid, unrestricted clinical license to practice Psychology independently, offered by a U.S. State, District of Columbia, commonwealth, territory or jurisdiction. In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements below: Specialized Experience: In order to qualify, your resume must demonstrate that you possess at least one year of specialized experience, which includes: Performing psychological evaluations, developing behavioral health treatment plans, providing psychological counseling services, and providing guidance to developmental behavioral health employees. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-13). Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
