GENERAL PURPOSE OF THE JOB

The primary function of the Payroll Operations Supervisor is to provide supervision to the payroll coordinators and ensure timely and accurate processing of the biweekly payroll and daily on demand payments. Consistently demonstrates advanced knowledge of payroll regulations related to Federal, State and Local laws, company and department policies and best practices to ensure compliance and adherence. Responsible to ensure essential functions are completed timely and accurately on a daily/weekly/monthly schedule. Participates in year-end tasks and activities. Resolves sensitive or escalated issues quickly and with appropriate discretion. This position works closely with other leaders and teams within the Payroll department and across the Village.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provides leadership to direct reports.
    • Knows, understands, implements, follows, and communicates to teammates all DaVita employment policies and procedures, awards, and other opportunities within company and foster a positive work environment.
    • Facilitates teammate development including goals and goal achievement measurements.
    • Maintains familiarity with and communicates to teammates DaVita programs impacting teammates.
    • Helps direct reports to overcome any organizational obstacles encountered during projects.
    • Determines staffing plans that promote the most effective use of all teammates; ensure coverage during teammate absences.
  • Oversees the daily operation of payroll processing, including but not limited to
    • Ensure all deadlines are met including processing and reviews.
    • Ensures audits are performed and protocols are being followed.
    • Ensures process documentation is reviewed and updated on an annual basis.
  • Trains team on job duties and best practices. Focuses on process improvement and use of technology to provide efficiencies.
  • Attends management meetings and keeps management informed of upcoming changes and potential high-risk situations.
  • Makes day to day decisions regarding the treatment of payroll transactions.
  • Responds to escalations from PSC, managers, and People Services teams field for Operations. Provides guidance for resolution and appropriate process for escalations.
  • Establishes and completes necessary controls to ensure policy and SOX compliance. Oversees internal and external audits and system and process testing.
  • Develops, researches, and maintains current knowledge of regulatory issues affecting Payroll.
  • Other duties as assigned including support business continuity during extenuating circumstances (ie facility closure) by telecommuting from a remote location.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Required

  • 6-8 years of relevant experience
  • High School Diploma
  • Knowledge of how a paycheck is calculated including FLSA, pre/post tax deductions and how it translates to the form W2. Demonstrates a clear understanding of FLSA and is able to determine which types of earnings are and are not applicable to the FLSA regular rate of pay. Additionally, must be able to calculate an employee’s FLSA regular rate of pay where necessary.
  • Payroll processing experience in a fully integrated HCM environment
  • Working knowledge and understanding of timekeeping processes and systems
  • Advanced working knowledge and demonstrated ability of payroll processes/procedures and systems in a high-volume, fast-paced, production environment.
  • Multi-state payroll processing experience
  • Knowledge of HR benefit practices as it relates to time off
  • Minimum 3 years payroll management or supervisory experience
  • Intermediate knowledge in Microsoft suite and other technologies to support efficiencies.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Skilled at providing guidance and/or constructive feedback to teammates.
  • Deals with confidential information and/or issues using discretion and judgment.

Preferred

  • FPC (Fundamental Payroll Certification) or CPP (Certified Payroll Professional) accreditation or actively studying for accreditation

TRAVEL AND TIME REQUIREMENTS

Travel: less than 5%

Nights/Weekends: Additional hours on occasion as needed up to 10%

Work Schedule: Ability to flex schedule to support business need, including the ability to start between 6am and 7am regularly and work up to 5pm on payroll processing days

The Salary Range for the role is $78,000.00 - $110,000.00 per year.

 

 

 

If a candidate is hired, they will be paid at least the minimum wage according to their geographical jurisdiction and the exemption status for the position.

Washington Exempt: $77,968.80/year Washington Non-exempt: Bellingham: $17.66/hour, Burien: $21.16/hour, Unincorporated King County: $20.29/hour, Renton: $20.90/hour, Seattle: $20.76/hour, Tukwila: $21.10/hour, Remainder of Washington state: $16.66/hour
