Student Programs Manager

Reporting to the Assistant Dean for Educational Administration, the Student Program Manager will provide oversight of student services functions to Doctor of Medicine Students. The manager will provide supervision and oversight of staff ensuring that the identified goals and objectives of the Department of Medical Education are accomplished in accordance with educational objectives and mission of the School of Medicine. This position works primarily under the direction of the Associate Dean for Student Affairs.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Manage the administration of non-curricular program activities and services directed to students who enroll in the Doctor of Medicine program at Keck School of Medicine (KSOM), which includes support of educational, social, cultural, recreational, and general welfare needs of students. Areas of oversight include: academic and career advising, student interest groups, student affinity groups, event planning including orientation activities, white coat ceremony, and graduation, academic support and advising, and student well-being.
  • Manage the absence/attendance process. Work with academic departments and Office of Curriculum to ensure students are compliant with completing educational activities due to absence.
  • Supervise the administrative functions of academic and career advising, academic support, and well-being program.  Attend program meetings and resolve administrative issues as needed to ensure objectives of these programs are achieved.
  • Exercises independent judgement, solves problems, supervises, and develops innovative approaches to the management of a wide variety of student affairs programs and initiatives, which includes working across units and departments in KSOM.
  • Provides advice and assistance to prospective, new and continuing medical students about student support services and non-curricular programming.
  • Interprets and communicates student affairs policies, procedures, and guidelines to applicants, students, faculty, and staff. 
  • Develops and implements new or revised program policies, goals, and objectives for the student affairs unit; presents recommendations to the Associate Dean for Student Affairs & administration as appropriate.
  • Supervises student services staff. Determines work priorities of subordinates and conducts job performance evaluations as requested/required. Manages the performance of staff to ensure that individuals are supported and challenged to provide exemplary service to improve the quality of programs and services.
  • Develops and prepares annual budget, reports, and financial projections.
  • Participates in staff meetings, professional development seminars, and as a member of internal and external committees, as requested/required.
  • Represents KSOM program at various community and student functions.
  • Manages and administers needs assessment, evaluates, and analyzes student services activities effectiveness; develops recommendations; implements activities as required and takes appropriate action to ensure efficiencies and accuracy.
  • Special projects as assigned including preparing reports for internal and external stakeholders.

The annual base salary range for this position is $76,461.32 - $102,500. Minimum Education: Master's degree, Combined experience/education as substitute for minimum education
Minimum Experience: 3 years
Minimum Field of Expertise: Student personnel administration with supervisory experience
