Position Summary:    The Store Inventory Junior Accountant provides support to a variety of internal and external users with dedicated support to the Inventory Accounting team and Inventory Control Field group.  To comply with external audit requirements, the central focus of this position is around detailed analysis and review of exception-based inventory and cost reporting, as well as occasional Store Inventory counts. This position provides analytical value and perspective on inventory movements, expense lines and article costs.

Principal Duties:

  • Create and analyze weekly Inventory Exception based reporting identifying unusual trends in inventory expense, or inventory valuations. Creates clear and professional communication utilizing Applix tool to resolve found issues.  Respond quickly and professionally to store inquiries regarding accounting entries by researching and documenting the issue and resolution.
  • Utilize new technical tools provided to drive new exception-based reporting for Inventory and Expense issues, driving workforce efficiencies.
  • Perform month end tasks and journal entries as assigned.
  • Work with Store Inventory Accounting to review accuracy of the Store posted Invoices, helping to identify and correct Invoicing errors. Work with strategic partners to correct and communicate resolution.
  • Create, modify and enhance reporting to identify and correct incorrect article inventory costs.
  • Perform cycle counts in pre-selected stores and categories to ensure inventory accuracy. Work within a team structure with Inventory Control Field team associates to perform necessary inventory counts for any store impacted by systems failures.
  • Create and review exception-based reporting on store performed cycle counts and initiate further investigative action as required if counts are not done according to designated processes.
  •  Through analysis, assess the need for additional store cycle counts. Follow up communication performed to confirm count was performed correctly.  Escalates appropriate issues to Inventory Control Management or Area Manager for resolution.
  • Support the resolution of failed SAP IDOCS by partnering with SAP retail OPS to delete incorrect invoicing or purchase orders, and store transfer PO errors. 
  • Work with Store Operations team and the Call Center to perform a thorough review of any reversal request for a duplicated Goods Receipts, or other duplicated entries. Communicate resolution in a timely manner.
  • Work with Merchandise Payables team to communicate inaccurate inventory movements that will impact the DSD vendor payables, and coordinates corrective action depending on the problem.  Responsible for researching Account Payable adjustments when requested and providing explanations on why adjustments were completed.
  • Create and analyze reporting for new stores/remodels verifying store stock balances, cycle count postings, and initial invoice postings
  • Perform other duties as assigned by Inventory Accounting Management.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or related business discipline preferred
  • 1 - 2 years of Retail Operation experience preferred
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Word preferred
  • Knowledge of SAP preferred
