Duties/Responsibilities
- Support the mission, vision, and values of the organization.

 - Preceptor to SPD Tech I. 
 - Fulfills all requirements for documentation to ensure the department is able to distribute high quality sterile products in an efficient manner to effectively meet the requirements of its customers.
 - Develops and maintains a thorough knowledge of instrumentation, equipment, utilization, and sterile processing.
 - Follow established protocols for cleaning, decontaminating, preparing and packaging, disinfecting or sterilizing, and storing medical and surgical supplies and equipment.
 - Works in collaboration with the O.R. to provide patient required instrumentation.
 - Adhere to standard precautions including the use of personal protective equipment.
 - Operate equipment used in the sterile processing areas safely and according to the manufacturer’s instructions for use.
 - Follow safety procedures and manufacturer’s instructions when handling cleaning solutions, supplies and equipment.
 - Properly documents and verifies sterilization loads and biological tests to determine the efficacy of the sterilization process.
 - Accesses surgeon preference cards to assemble and disburse case cart to the customer in a quality/timely manner.
 - Understands, uses, maintains and operates the equipment specific to Sterile Processing, i.e. steam, ETO, gas plasma sterilizers, cart washers, washer/disinfectors, ultrasonic cleaners, and heat sealers as well as a variety of testing devices.
 - Knows and uses the processes involved in ordering, receiving, stocking, rotating, delivering and monitoring usage of supplies.  Communicates supply issues to appropriate personnel in a timely manner. 
 - Maintains safety standards and appropriately handles garbage, linen and biohazardous material. 
 - Uses appropriate personal protective equipment to handle instrument, implants, and patient care equipment soiled with blood borne pathogen substances.
 - Maintains a clean orderly work area.  Team role model.
 - Tracks his/her progress and compliance in regards to training, staff meeting and in-service education, etc.
 - Comply with organizational policies, regulatory and accreditation standards, and professional guidelines.
 - Exhibit professional interpersonal and communication skills.
 - Participate in improving the quality of sterile processing services.
 - Assist with identifying pertinent evidence to establish benchmarks as directed.
 - Maintain privacy and confidentiality of individuals and health information.
 - Communicate with leadership when problems develop with equipment and/or staff.
 - Communicate with leadership of whereabouts when not in SPD during designated time of working hours.
 - And other duties assigned.
 
Required Skills/Abilities
- High School Education or GED.
 - Basic Computer knowledge.
 - Sterile Processing Certification required.
 - 1-2 years Sterile processing experience preferred.  
 - Good interpersonal skills. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships and the ability to receive and give constructive feedback.
 - Good verbal and written communication skills for the job, being concise by phone, intercom and in person.
 - Self-motivated, able to work independently with little or no supervision.
 - Understanding of sterilization and high-level disinfection technologies including industry standardized principles and practice in sterilization and disinfection required.
 - Knowledge of surgical instruments, infection control practices, decontamination and sterilization techniques; understands of the relationship between Sterile Processing and the Operating Room, as well as other departments in the health system that receive sterile processing services.
