Job Description
The Desert Research Institute's STEM Education Program is seeking a STEM Education Assistant in Reno, Nevada. This position will support the STEM Education Program, with a focus on supporting the Green Box program. Green Boxes are self-contained STEM kits containing curriculum and all supplies needed for a classroom to engage in hands-on activities. These kits are shipped to educators quarterly, where they are utilized in the classroom prior to being returned to DRI. This position will support the development, maintenance, and inventory of these boxes. In addition, this position will support educator professional development trainings and educational outreach events. Ideal candidates are those who have a passion for education, science, or related topics. The following tasks will be required for this position:
Inventory, refill and build Green Boxes (STEM kits)
Assist in moving, unpacking, and organizing inventory for the program
Maintain the organization of the Green Box workshop facility
Maintain and update inventory lists as needed
Assist with the preparation and facilitation of educational and public outreach events
Assist with administration of Green Box Program through helping Green Box Shipments both inbound and outbound
High school diploma or equivalent
Valid Driver’s License and satisfactory driving record
Insurance on incumbent’s vehicle
Highly organized with an attention to detail
Strong interest in working with K-12 students and/or educators
Intermediate skills with Microsoft Office Suite and Google Suite programs
Ability to work independently and maintain responsibility for individual work to meet deadlines
Excellent interpersonal, teamwork, and communication skills
Bilingual – Spanish and English
Experience working with inventory, logistics, and packing
Experience working with PreK-12 students, educators, or non-profit organizations
Knowledge with graphic design programs to create flyers, edit curriculum, or presentations
$17.20 per hour, no benefits
20 hours per week
Periodic weekend and evening events
This position requires the performance of physical tasks such as lifting objects up to 80 lbs., stooping, bending, kneeling or standing for long periods of time. Additionally, this position requires moving inventory up and down stairs and utilizing equipment to move inventory.
Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation as local travel is required
Employment is contingent upon successful completion of a background check.
If enrolled at an NSHE institution for the 2024-2025 school year, students must carry at least 6 credits to be considered a student worker
Employment is contingent upon the incumbent providing a copy of their DMV driving record, valid driver’s license, and vehicle insurance.
An incumbent is not eligible for employment due to an unsatisfactory driving record. Examples of unacceptable infractions include but are not limited to:
Suspended or revoked license.
Three or more moving violations in the past 36 months.
Any violations involving drugs, alcohol, controlled substances, etc., withing the past 24 months.
Leaving the scene of an accident within the past 24 months.
Reckless driving within the past 24 months.
At fault in an accident resulting in a fatality or serious injury within the past five years.
