Ultrasound Systems Engineer

Analog Devices (NASDAQ: ADI) designs and manufactures state-of-the-art semiconductor products and solutions. We enable our customers to interpret the world around us by intelligently bridging the physical and digital worlds with unmatched technologies that sense, measure, and connect.

Our team is pioneering next-generation handheld diagnostics and has an opening for a talented and experienced ultrasound systems engineer, with deep expertise in ultrasound transducer front-end design, beamforming architectures, and acoustic system integration. The ideal candidate has significant experience designing ultrasound probes or NDT phased-array systems, from transducer selection and matching layer design to TX/RX electronics, T/R protection, and downstream signal acquisition. Prior experience with medical imaging devices, point-of-care ultrasound, or industrial NDT phased array systems is highly preferred.

The candidate will contribute across multiple development efforts, including handheld ultrasound systems and novel AI-enabled imaging platforms heading toward commercialization. You will be a key member of a small, fast-moving team with high visibility and direct access to leadership. The ideal candidate thrives in an innovative environment and is motivated by solving challenging, end-to-end system problems.

Minimum Qualifications

  • BS, MS, or PhD in Electrical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, or related field (or equivalent industry experience)
  • 6+ years of experience designing ultrasound or phased-array systems — medical imaging or NDT, with commercial deployment
  • Proven hands-on experience with at least one of the following:
    • Ultrasound transducer design, piezo/CMUT/PMUT integration, or acoustic stack development
    • TX/RX analog front-end design, including pulsers, T/R switches, LNA/VGA chains, ADC selection, and impedance matching
    • Beamforming architectures — analog, digital, or hybrid
  • Ability to prototype and debug hardware at the bench, working from schematic to first echo
  • Experience with ultrasound measurement techniques — phantom testing, axial/lateral resolution evaluation, acoustic output characterization
  • Self-starter who can independently define architecture direction while working closely with electrical, mechanical, and software teammates
  • Strong documentation discipline and ability to support design verification / regulatory test requirements

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with handheld ultrasound systems and/or POCUS platforms
  • Familiarity with FDA 510(k) ultrasound regulatory guidance, IEC 60601 acoustic safety, and MI/TI reporting
  • Experience interfacing with DSP or mobile app developers for beamforming and display pipelines
  • Exposure to AI/ML-assisted imaging or Doppler/power/color flow analysis
