OMF is looking for an individual contributor staff engineer. In this role, you will be a key team member on an enterprise platform which plays a critical role in the company. Successful staff engineer will be inquisitive, innovative, collaborative, influential, and hands on to ensure seamless platform operations and continued evolution of the services over time.
Key Responsibilities
Snowflake Platform Administration & Cost Intelligence
- Own RBAC and security posture across AWS Snowflake accounts; ensure policy‑driven access aligned to least privilege
 - Govern schema, warehouse, and database configurations for sustained performance and reliability
 - Set and enforce Time Travel retention and replication/failover policies across environments
 - Establish cost intelligence: implement auto‑suspend/scale rules, credit‑usage dashboards, and anomaly alerts; drive ongoing cost/perf optimization
 - Orchestrate enterprise DR drills for PROD/DR; ensure controlled failover and rapid, verifiable recovery

Performance & Optimization
- Instrument and tune query performance; eliminate systemic bottlenecks and publish platform tuning patterns
 - Right‑size compute and qualify/migrate critical workloads to improved configurations; document measurable cost/performance outcomes

Change Management, Security & Compliance
- Design and maintain automated, auditable change pipelines (Git‑based workflows, CI/CD, approval gates) for Snowflake releases
 - Lead quarterly SOX access reviews; enforce RBAC, segregation of duties, and environment isolation (PROD vs. Non‑PROD)
 - Enforce encryption policies, IP/network controls, and zero‑trust‑aligned guardrails.

Cross‑Functional Collaboration & Enablement
- Partner with application and analytics teams (e.g., Glue, DBT, Databricks, Power BI, Looker) to deliver secure, performant integrations and reliable data products
 - Engage InfoSec and Audit on controls, evidence, and remediation plans
 - Lead incident & problem management for connectivity, driver, and upstream/downstream integration issues; deliver durable root‑cause fixes and prevention playbooks
 - Mentor junior DBA and data engineers through patterns, runbooks, and design reviews

Platform Evolution
- Set platform direction, evangelize best practices, and influence roadmaps across teams; translate complex technical concepts into clear recommendations for both executives and engineers, building consensus and momentum
 - Anticipate risks and solve incidents/problems proactively, and institutionalize innovations as standards to unlock performance, resilience, and cost efficiencies
 - Champion targeted POCs for advanced Snowflake capabilities—including Cortex for AI/semantic layers, ML pipelines, dbt native projects, Snowpark, Container Services, and Native Apps

Required Skills
- Strong expertise in Snowflake architecture, SQL, and performance tuning
 - Deep understanding of analytical platforms or database concepts and familiarity with industry trends
 - Familiarity with role-based security models and SOX compliance
 - Scripting skills (Python, Shell) for automation
 - Excellent problem-solving and communication skills

Preferred Qualifications
- 8+ years in analytical data platform administration with at least 3 years on Snowflake.
 - Knowledge of ETL tools (DBT, Databricks, DataStage etc..) and BI platforms (Power BI, Looker)
 - Experience in disaster recovery planning and audit processes
 - Exposure to cloud security best practices
