Designs, develops, implements, verifies and tests algorithms and software and simulation tools to perform guidance, navigation and control of aircraft, spacecraft, submersibles, surface ships, missiles, launch vehicles and upper stages during powered and coast phases of launch, flight, earth orbit, interplanetary cruise and orbital insertion, as well as during staging events. Navigation functions include the statistical processing of measured data points and their substitution into algorithms simulating physical reality. Guidance functions include the formulation of specific equations to achieve a desired position, orientation or orbit in space. Control design and analyses processes consist of the development of the control laws and hardware and software requirements for aircraft, launch vehicles and/or spacecraft.

The Sr. Staff GNC Engineer will design, develop, implement, verify, and test high-quality software and simulation toolchains. The candidate will be working on a 6 degree of freedom (6DOF) simulation to design and test missile flight code. The applicant will be creating and implementing 6DoF simulation models to evaluate system performance.  The candidate will perform mission analysis on flight test and tactical systems. The engineer will need to have knowledge of missile flight dynamics. The candidate should have experience in creating, implementing and testing missile autopilot, navigation and guidance schemes. The candidate will mentor and train early career engineers on the team. The candidate should have experience with C++ programing language, as well as Python and MATLAB.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics) discipline from an accredited university and required years of experience for level 6 engineer as follows: 17 years of related experience or a master’s degree in a STEM discipline and 15 years of experience, or a PhD and 12 years of experience.

  • Must have an active U.S. Government DoD Top Secret security clearance at time of application, current and within scope

  • Expertise in Guidance Navigation and Control (GNC) systems engineering, including architecture specification, requirements generation, modeling and simulation, hardware / software integration and flight test.

  • Experience designing, implementing and testing guidance and autopilot algorithms

  • Travel 10% of the time

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working with GNC systems for hypersonic missiles

  • Proficiency in C++ development in a Linux environment

  • Proficiency in MATLAB and Python toolchains

  • Experience in the developed navigation systems for tactical missiles

Primary Level Salary Range: $162,500.00 - $243,700.00

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
